Wormhole rolling changes here to stay?

    Posted: 21 Feb 2020 09:07 AM PST

So downtime has passed and the stealth nerf was not stealth reverted. CCP has communicated to players that they are standing by a change that everyone has reviled excluding career salt harvesters with no skin in the game.

    The implications:

    • If you live in a C1 wormhole, or in any wormhole with a C1 static, you might as well move. They are barely inhabitable anymore. The effort required to roll any connections to or from a C1 has mathematically been increased about 5-6x.

    • Doing proper hole control is now impossible because frigate holes are virtually unrollable. This means WH space is now safer because evictions are significantly harder to do successfully. If a frig hole spawns the defending side can batphone hundreds of people to come in with interceptors and just hand out ships to form an unbeatable defensive fleet. Or a more common case would be the defenders having the ability to bring all their toons home who were not in the hole, so they can join the fight or safelog all their assets.

    • Rage rolling from high-class space, the primary method of "new-sigging" into krabs and ganking them, or connecting to other PVP entities to fight, or just looking for good kspaces for logistics or kspace operations, is now more of a chore and more time consuming. It will result in fewer roles rolled per hour and less rolling in general. In a basic rolling setup, someone who might fly 2 PVP toons, a sabre for tackle, a scanner, and a rolling carrier. This setup would need to change into a sabre, scanner, carrier, and two battleships (or two Rorquals if you have toons that can fly them). So a solo roller would need more than 5 accounts just to be able to have one actual armor or shield PVP ship ready to fight. I can say from experience that rage rolling can be extremely boring for the sole fact that you can literally roll for hours sometimes and not find any content. Increasing the effort and/or number of people required will just disincentivize it further. Even before the patch it was common for people to just AFK in comms and be on standby with PVP ships, and play other games while they wait for the person rolling to actually find something. What's the point of adding new roaming wormholes for increased connectivity to then just nerf rage rolling so it takes longer and is more effort? That's a classic case of 1 step forward and 2 steps back.

    • Krabs might be statistically a bit safer if fewer people are rage rolling, but overall they're going to be annoyed at the fact that frigate holes are no longer rollable, which will likely mean just logging off and not farming if there's a frig hole in their farm. And locking down their farms before they run sites will take a bit of extra effort to roll everything off. The 2nd part is honestly not that bad because unlike with rage-rolling, you don't actually roll for hours from your farm. You roll for maybe 15 minutes or so to lock it down and then you're done.

Whether this mechanic was technically a bug or not doesn't really matter. So was cloak-MWD warping, but that turned out to be a great game mechanic and the community raged when CCP tried to "fix" it.

This doesn't actually allow bypassing of the total mass restrictions of a wormhole, it's just the "jumpable" mass. Jumpable mass limits exist for one main reason: to keep capitals out of lowclass space and to keep supercaps out of wormholes altogether. This "bug" did not subvert those intentions.

In fact, in most PVP situations you want to maximize how much mass you can fit into a wormhole. This means telling people to jump with prop modes OFF and to turn their armor plates off to conserve mass. Or storing ships in the Ship Maintenance Bay of caps that you jump to save mass. Overmassing the jump limits with your prop mod is just a time saving quality of life feature. It doesn't let you move more ships through a hole than you otherwise would be able to, it makes it so you actually move fewer ships.

The fact that this was stealth changed, after 8 years, with no communication from CCP, without consulting the opinion of the WH CSM, with no patch notes during a "From Wormholes with Love" release theme, is a fucking joke.

    EDIT:

Quote from the WH CSM himself:

...my biggest issue with it. as far as I can tell this change came attached to nothing. this wasnt collateral damage for another feature, or as a balance pass it was done in pure isolation and has, as far as I can see no positive benefits.

    Possible Stealth Patch: Fighters?

    Posted: 21 Feb 2020 04:46 AM PST

We have multiple people across various groups experiencing major rat aggro when ratting in a super or a carrier. I just wanted to reach out here to see if anyone else was experiencing the same thing after the latest downtime?

With the swift changes happening in the game as of late, and the limitations being put on resources, I wouldnt be surprised if this was a play to limit the crazy amounts of isk generated when super ratting.

    Thoughts? Discussion?

    friendship friday nice thread (◕‿◕✿)

    Posted: 21 Feb 2020 04:40 AM PST

it's time to forget about in-game standings and just be nice to each other because we're good men (◡‿◡✿)

you know the rules, it's friday so it's time for this week's friendship friday nice thread. in this thread, we post without any caps at all and we post what we appreciate about eve and the people who play it. (◕‿◕✿) here are the rules:

    • do not use any capital letters. if someone forgets this rule or does not follow it, don't be that guy/gal. we're all about positivity and acceptance here, no matter the grammar (✿◠‿◠)

    • talk about what you appreciate or what is good with eve, or life, or whatever else you're appreciative of this week (◕‿◕✿)

    • players will agree with you in all lowercase

    • talking about what we appreciate will form a positive relational bond in the eve community

happy friday friends, hope you all have relaxing weekends (◕‿◕✿)
