    EVE VEGAS 2020 - OCTOBER 23 & 24, LIVE IN LAS VEGAS

    Posted: 14 Feb 2020 04:00 PM PST

    Hello, fellow EVE nerds!

In December 2019, we told you that EVE Vegas 2020 would be going ahead, with a new player committee running the show. Today, we are happy to announce the broad details of Vegas 2020, with a more detailed schedule to come further down the road.

First up, the dates! EVE Vegas 2020 will be taking place across the 23rd and 24th of October. We have a couple of organised events that will be ticketed via Eventbrite, including a Meet 'n' Greet on the 23rd, and a Vegas Strip pub crawl on the 24th. There are also some fantastic goodie bag extras included in your ticket price, and further details about the schedule and events will be released when we have finalised everything. In the meantime, you can purchase your tickets at our eventbrite page now, for an Early Bird price of $75!

We have also organised a discount accommodation rate for all EVE Vegas 2020 attendees. This is through Bally's Las Vegas Hotel, which is a Caesars property. This hotel and casino offers all the usual things you would expect from a Casars hotel, from nice rooms and an on-site bar and restaurant to opportunities for you all to throw the dice. Bally's is right on the Vegas Strip, so you'll be right in the thick of it with all your fellow nerds too! Check out all the details on our official event website!

One aspect that always crops up when it comes to player events is that every alliance wants to have their own particular event. We respect this, but at the same time, Vegas is a time to mingle and have fun with those people you didn't necessarily know before. So, we would like to offer an opportunity to anyone organising an alliance dinner or event - If you wish to open your dinner or event beyond your particular alliance or coalition, we would love for you to reach out on discord to Hyprviper#3885, and we will add the details of your event to our Vegas 2020 website.

So what are you waiting for? Grab your ticket now, and we'll see you in October!

WH nomad life- a short report of my adventure

    Posted: 14 Feb 2020 02:19 PM PST

I always liked the idea of being a space nomad. I read that C13 confessor blog about a dozen times. It seems adventurous! I can play on my own time, and log on/off at short notice. Would the reality be more boring than I imagined? With 1000 plex sitting around, I decided to resub two characters and find out. I would try an extended semi-solo roam through WH space to explore and make some isk.

    The ships

I would have loved to have used a carrier +others, but carriers are ass for WH sites. I considered using a single dread +others, which would definitely give me more flexibility (blockade runner, dedicated scanning ship, etc. in the hanger), but thought single-dread C5 sites looked yuck. Also I have no idea what I'm doing. Two dreads would work, but I don't have the characters for it. And I'd have no idea what I was doing times two.

I EFT'd up a few other ships for this adventure, but ultimately kept coming back to my favourite ship: the Nestor. I love the way it looks, I love the lore, I love how tanky they are in groups, and I was familiar with them from C5 krabbing. They are low mass, making moving through WH chains easy, and they were less investment than capitals. They can refit off each other, even in combat, and they get bonuses to probing which will be helpful. They also have a bit that spins.

Nestors are excellent C5 krabs. They really shine in groups of 3+, but 2 is doable. They're able to run sites in any WH except Pulsar. Shields suck anyway. Just swap the lows around for more tank as needed.

The Nestor is an agile ship, and most of the tank being via remote reps allows lows to be swapped for better align time with nano fibres or stabs while travelling. I also included triple props for out-running poor decisions.

Although PVP isn't my intention with the nomad life, I was prepared to meet someone dumb enough to get caught, or bare my teeth (geckos) if I get dropped. To hunt the most dangerous game of all, I swap in a web and scram.

    In the hold

FC, my Nestors carry the following: plenty of probes and drones for when I inevitably leave them in space by accident. A mobile depot isn't necessary when the Nestors are together, but if one dies I want to be able to rescue the other. Cans for dropping loot in safes. Mobile tractor units for hoovering up sleeper bodies. Hull repairers are to repair hulls (probably my own). Was I forgetting something...?

    Ah.

    [Exotic Dancer, Male]

    Much better.

The ship maintenance array in the Nestor is 'tragically small', but I'm used to hearing that from girls. Thankfully it can fit another of my favourite ships: the Zephyr. The plan is to park the Nestor in space, eject the Zephyr, swap my pod over, and quickly bookmark C5 sites for later attack. It's risky and mostly unecessary, but there's nothing else that fits, and at least the Zephyr offers marginal utility.

Having fitted my two ships, Winton Boy II and Lachlan Lad, I undocked in search of isk and adventure. If space nomad is fun I'll keep going, and if I die of boredom at least I can say I've given it a shot.

    The adventure begins

I started by picking a random system in high-sec near Jita, then gating from there until I found one with a signature. Probing it out reveals a high-sec to c1 wormhole. Probing through the c1 reveals a link to a c4, and from the c4 a way into a vanilla c5. I start off by jumping through the hole and making a safe, warping both Nestors to the safe, and swapping my travel fit for a probing fit. I scan down the system and find some gas sites, and no signs of the locals. Very good!

I get to work with my---- fuck.

I forgot to actually put the Zephyr in the hold.

Not daunted by my own stupidity (I live with me, after all), I pre-warp the gas site. I decided to warp my two Nestors together to bookmark a Core Garrison incase I stuff it up and get stuck.

Bookmark made, I warp back and get to work grinding sleepers and spamming D-scan. Site completed. I try salvaging as well, but there isn't much value in salvage and my cargo space isn't endless. I don't see anyone, so I refit for cloak and log off in space at my safe.

The next day I finish another Core Garrison, then see some probes on scan. Enough of this wormhole! I scan down the static (a c5) and pop my spinny-bois through.

Another vanilla hole. This time I see a Prospect on scan. Huffington. Good name. I cloak off the wormhole. They don't seem to have noticed me. I uncloak, refit for combat probes, then re-cloak... they're still on scan. I use my D-scan prowess to narrow the location of the offending space vacuum down to a narrow cone, launch my probes, and get a warp-in with 2 pings (sorry Sean Connery!). I warp to the huffer and the poor pleb finally wakes up and leaves. Not to worry. I clear the gas site of sleepers once they spawn, and leave a can outside the local Astra informing the dear lad he can huff 'til he pops. My good deed done, I clear out to the next hole (c4).

This is a good hole! Corp of 3 people, no allies, single astra, and most importantly, a c5 and c1 statics. I briefly consider running the c4 sites themselves, then slap myself and get to work scanning down the c5.

I stay in the c4 for a few days. A normal day is logging in to the safe, cloaking, scanning, shuffling loot and modules around, finding the new c5, checking it out and running some sites. In one of the c5s I spot a Nestor/Nestor/Leshak group krabbing. I scare them off with combat probes and align to warp to their MTU, but they immediately return and scoop their goodies. I didn't particularly want to get stuck on grid with that group + drifter. Perhaps if I had thought to pack some heavy neuts? Next time.

Part way through my nomad-ing the new WH patch drops and the sites are suddenly riskier. No more MJD moonwalking out for me! Apparently you can still use Mobile MJDs, but I don't have any. There are now lots (and lots, and lots) of extra high class connections, so my c4 is less exciting. I move into a mag c5 and chomp some sleepers- fast. I can see why everyone wants these!

A few sites later I'm bored. And slightly anxious carrying all my blue loot around. Scanning down a chain leads me from my mag c5, to a c6, to a c1, to high sec. Easy. I sell my loot, set course for Jita, and continue to spam D-scan out of habit. It's a miracle the V key hasn't broken yet.

Final thoughts: I quite like being in space the whole time, it reminds me of living in a POS and getting to see the stars and nebula as soon as you log in, rather than the inside of a metal cube and an ad about glasses. I was ready to fight someone and give you all a good story, but honestly saw very few people, probably due to my unintentional time-zone tanking (AUTZ ftw). The two Nestors are a cool combo: refitting off each other on the fly definitely makes the sites more interesting, and their bonus for probes and low mass is icing on top. WIthout a Leshak they're a bit slow, and not having access to warping-while-cloaked is a bit limiting.

Ultimately running sites isn't that much fun on my own. I miss my space-friends (who aren't playing much at the moment) and I miss hanging out on comms. If I go nomading again I think I'll bring a capital ship and a small POS for increased flexibility, and to mix it up. Having no experience in capitals at all, I'm likely to die horribly to something embarrassing like an Astero, but at least it'll be different.

Hope you all enjoyed the read :).
