This Is a Good Patch: Let Me Adress Some Concerns

    Posted: 07 Apr 2020 02:25 PM PDT

I read tons of upset comments everywhere. That's just status-quo bias talking. No, the patch and the blanket resist nerf isn't "lazy". The very point is changing the meta in a very deep way to make everyone rethink about the ways they do things. That's not doom. That's exciting.

Today is the day which most of you will have to open pyfa and begin to conduct fresh theorycrafting. From Abyssal runners to large supercap fleet FCs, from super ratters to logi pilots, from small gangs to 1v1 PvP'ers, all of you have one reason or another find a new way of doing the things you enjoy to do. We often complain about how most of Eve is figured out and how the meta is stale. Today is the day we got a fresh meta, and with minimum cost to CCP. So rejoice.

Let me address some specific worries:

    • Supercap Pilots: CCP publicly acknowledges there will be "why even use a super" kind of a problem after the patch. That means they plan to address it. Stay frosty. [CLARIFICATION: This refers to the devblog sentence about how CCP wants to carve a distinct role for supers]
    • Subcap Site Runners (abyssal, NPC Sotiyos, etc): If a site turns out to be completely undoable, I'm sure CCP will address it. Until then it's good for everyone that you have to go back to pyfa and adapt your fits.
    • Logistics Pilots: People value your profession, but logi heightens the bar which partial loss occurs in fleets. It's good game design to want more loss occurring from both sides, and steer away from a meta which people disengage once they can't break enemy's logi. That's not to say logi makes fleets totally uninteresting, but a logi balance is good.
    • 1v1 PvPers: CCP is trying to make short range brawlers an option again vs kitey stuff. A new meta will establish in all PvP including yours. Just because it's new, it doesn't mean its bad.
    • Muninn FCs: At this point I'm sure most people who use Muninns were using them because others were using them and CCP wasn't nerfing them. So they should be happy.
    • T3Cs: I feel like T3Cs provide a high stakes subcap option as opposed to HACs due to total cost of losing them (SP), so I'm not fully aboard nerfing Loki/Legion (if anything I'd want to see Prot/Tengu being made more meaningful). But hey, a T3C is still very versatile.
    • Whalers: Can't believe you nasty people got all the buffs man. Go nuts.

So let's just bury the pitchforks and enjoy the game together?

DT vs PIRAT Round 2 - 100b BS Brawl AAR

    Posted: 07 Apr 2020 05:30 PM PDT

    The Prelude

    Part I here: https://old.reddit.com/r/Eve/comments/fv1nme/pirat_astra_armor_timer_selfbaited_on_a_bump/

Tonight, as part of our ongoing hostilities with PIRAT, we were defending a fortizar structure timer. This time PIRAT were joined by Wrecking Machine, so we were again expecting to be outnumbered, but this time by more than 40. As PIRAT had dropped their war with TRIGG rendering them ineligible to assist, one of our old hands went deep into smoky backrooms of past friends and allies to secure the assistance of a small NC force to serve as the new hammer to our anvil.

Note that because of war mechanics, we were the only group able to shoot Wrecking Machine.

    The Parties

    Attackers - 115

    • 76 PIRAT (46 Rattlesnakes, 12 Scorpions, 24 Scimitars, some of whom reshipped into spares 3 times, and 3 web Lokis)
    • 39 Wrecking Machine (26 Nightmares, 5 Phantasms, 15 Basilisks)

    Defenders - 117

    • 66 Dead Terrorists (25 Leshaks, 6 Bhaalgorns, 34 Zarmazd)
    • 38 Northern Coalition (34 Attack Battlecruisers, mostly Oracles with a few Hyenas for support)
    • 10 Shadow Cartel (9 Blackbirds and a Celestis)
    • 4 Space Ants (4 Scorpions)

    The Setup

With NC set up a few jumps out, and SC and Space Ants independently staged in-system, we planned to setup on the Fortizar undock then warp on top of the main PIRAT/WRECK fleet then use our tackle Zarmazd to lock them down. Meanwhile NC would come in at range and supply the volley/sustained damage required to break through the abundant PIRAT logi, which would be disrupted by SC and Space Ants. After clearing logi, we would then turn to cleaning up their BS.

    The Throwdown

The engagement began to plan, and we got our armor ball on top of the PIRAT Rattlesnakes with NC 1 jump out. Initial trading was bloody, as the PIRAT Scorpions jammed out a large number of our Zarmazd - being fit for tackle they didn't have the usual ECCM, so we lost 10 BS in the first 5 minutes. Meanwhile, NC was focusing on helping clear PIRAT logi and ECM. This bought us a 5 minute respite, but, we again started bleeding hulls as the Scorpions returned to grid. Thankfully after a second bloodying, they didn't return for a 3rd round.

What followed were 10 minutes of desperate activity by our logi pilots (many of whom were now neuted dry enough that they couldn't run their reps) trying to keep our 'anvil' remotely in one piece, while we waited for NC to clear enough logi that we could start breaking PIRAT Rattlesnakes with what remained of our DPS.

After 38 PIRAT Scimitars and Basilisks had died, that time had finally come, and we started working on PIRAT's Rattlesnakes. Seeing that they were clearly losing the field, the neutral Bowhead characters once again made an appearance, allowing them to save another large portion of ships otherwise dead-to-rights, and they extracted what they could of the remainder.

All during the events described above, Wrecking Machine's Nightmares were hammering away at our fleet, but as soon as PIRAT started extracting, they pulled range and warped away, though not before we snagged a few more for the grinder...

Big love to everyone who came to help out <3

    The Afterparty... Or Not...

Space Ants also had a structure hull timer shortly after ours, but after retreating from our fort grid, PIRAT all dropped corp and joined another corp that was only at war with them, so due to roles we were unable to reciprocate and assist them. In our view this is complete bullshit, and a clear mechanical loophole that needs addressing (alongside the bowhead trick).

Our wars with PIRAT and Wrecking Machine are open for assistance if people want to help out - send me an EVE-mail (Captator) to get in touch about it.

A Deep and Well Thought Out Discussion About the Merits of Resistance Nerfs

Mining Veldspar with my Keepstar? I Think so...

    Posted: 07 Apr 2020 02:19 PM PDT

I bet CCP's gonna go through the resist value changes manually and royally mess up the values on at least one module and it's gonna be hilarious.

    Posted: 07 Apr 2020 06:02 PM PDT

One of my corp members has been acting as our corp’s photographer. Here’s the screenshot he took of the last moon chunk that we started pulling before the mining update hit.

    Just starting, probably dead, IDK

    Posted: 07 Apr 2020 03:08 PM PDT

So I am stuck in quarantine in Kuwait while deployed. Was doing the first agent missions to get started, and am only 2 days in. While killing some npcs for a mission, I got down to the last one when our power died to the building. The power flashed several times and killed our router. The power is back and I can get on my phone, but the router for my comp is toast. No idea if my ship is even alive. And no idea when I'll be able to get back on. This is an interesting way to start lol. Hopefully my ship lived long enough to log out on it's own.

    Tribute to Wormhole Capital Brawls

    Posted: 07 Apr 2020 11:10 AM PDT

With the end of the viability of capitals in wormholes on the horizon between the injector restriction, resist reduction and brawl damage increase, I thought I'd share some of the videos of the bigger brawls in recent times. We may never see 15b+ triage or dreads justifiably used again.

    Any advice for a newbie?

    Posted: 08 Apr 2020 02:31 AM PDT

Just started Eve online yesterday after beating Witcher 3 (I know completely different game to jump into) I think it's super interesting so far! I decided to go for a more explorer route, and I'm wondering, does it really matter what route you take? I'm still doing some of the main missions and haven't done any PVE or anything like that.

Anyone have advice on how to progress in the game?

    Unpopular opinion

    Posted: 07 Apr 2020 04:37 PM PDT

Things have no problem dying (mostly) if there is actually a reason to fight! Fix the problem by giving us some meaningful reasons for engagements. This resistance nerf is completely unnecessary and doesn't change the fact there is absolutely no reason to fight besides boredom and lols. If you want to hit caps with it, just add a penalty if fitted on caps and be done with it, subs really don't need this nerf and I feel like it's another case of "collateral damage".

The rest of the patch is pretty good tho

Surgical Strike: All Capitals can only fit 1 capacitor booster of any type on Singularity. Is this a bug?

    Posted: 07 Apr 2020 04:33 PM PDT

The patch notes as released this morning for capitals states:

I just tried to undock a fax on Singularity with a capital cap booster and a heavy cap booster and I received the following error:

    https://preview.redd.it/0a22b3k2dhr41.png?width=342&format=png&auto=webp&s=18ac5fadf1d408b8ed08832d96ddff9ad6392d6b

Note: the patch notes specifically says "Capital Capacitor Boosters limited to 1 per (capital) ship" not "ALL Capacitor Boosters limited to 1 per (capital) ship.

Has anyone else found additional information on this? Is this a bug or is this intended and just incorrectly worded in the patch notes?
