CSM XIV Vily and CSM XV BlazingBunny go toe-to-toe in Cache - 200B destroyed

    Posted: 22 May 2020 10:57 AM PDT

    https://zkillboard.com/related/30000622/202005220100/

As the "situation in Cache" continues to develop, near-daily fights have been breaking out along the Cache/Insmother border as well as in central Cache. One such fight took place last night when Legacy forces led by Vily attacked an NSH Astra in the southern Cache system of IVP (which has recently been dubbed 'Nuevo Laredo').

Legacy forces, led by Vily himself, but filled out mainly by Evictus alliance members, proceeded to bridge into IVP, pressing the attack with two eagle fleets and a muninn fleet, all supported by shield triage.

NC Maelstroms, NSH Tempest Fleets, Joint PL/Drones Muninns and a Winter Co Eagle fleet formed to defend the astra, all with triage as well.

As the subcap fight began, both sides traded aggressively. Once shield reps start to catch for triage, the Legacy eagle fleets started to outperform the harder-hitting but less-tanked maelstroms.

NC dropped two dozen dreads to kill the 4 Legacy fax, which melted like butter. TEST proceeded to drop ALL OF THEIR DREADS on the astra, to kill the NC Dreads. At this point, PL & NSH drop another 45 dreads on top of TEST, wiping the grid. All 28 dreads from TEST Alliance died.

Not to be outdone, Vily calls for his legendary shield super fleet, already in range, to jump in. Test cynos in supers 250km off the fight. As the last few TEST dreads are dying, Northern forces begin to degress and jump out. Losing about a dozen of their 70 dreads to DD's and titan guns, nearly 50 of the 70 northern dreads escape.

When the gun smoke settled and the bodies were stacked, both sides came out nearly even, with Legacy forces winning the subcap fight, and Northern forces decisively winning the dread fight: 28 killed to 18 lost.

It is unclear at this time where the rest of Legacy dreads were, if they were not in range, did not have an in cyno, or if Vily simply forgot to tell them to jump in.

Shoutout to Legacy for a fight well fought and shoutout to all the Northern Bois for showing up. A 200B fight over an astra that no one cares about is how EVE is supposed to be played.

    See y'all in Cacheganistan o7

I was hoping to see the mother of all loot drops from the oldest of SOV stations.

It gives a use for faction citadels as perma homes however.

    150,000 SP award fixed

    Posted: 22 May 2020 05:53 AM PDT

Thank you CCP for fixing the 150,000 SP award from the daily login campaign. As of this morning, the award I should have received about a week ago went through.

I do still have an item called 150,000 Skill Points. I wonder what I should do with it? Sell in a jita local contract? :P

A most frustrating return to EVE

    Posted: 22 May 2020 07:37 AM PDT

Our story starts a few weeks ago. I had stumbled upon some videos of Eve, and I was getting the itch again. I missed my mistress. I caved in and downloaded the game, and I so happened to do so right as the capsuleer event was starting. I updated my long-expired skill queues on my accounts, and I was just kind of checking things out and refamiliarizing myself with the game after a couple of years away. I also noticed that I will no longer be able to move my dread since only recons and BLOPS can make cynos now. I do think that's good to prevent constant hotdrops, but it sure makes me annoyed that my suitcase and all my ships are stuck out in unfriendly NPC Null. In any case, I started training my alt up to use recons so I could move it later.

I was also getting the login rewards. Since I knew that it wouldn't be too long before I ran out of alpha-trainable skills, I caved yet again and subscribed my two accounts, partially to get the Omega bonuses of the event.

IRL, I had recently returned to my home country after living abroad for many years. My driver's license had been stolen, so first thing on my agenda was to get a new one. COVID hit right about then, and I had to wait (and am still waiting) to get a new license. I had no other recourse but to hang out at my brother's house in his city. My uncle lives in a town a few hours away, and he wanted my help doing some work. Since I wasn't doing anything else at the moment, pressure from a few parties dictated that I go there. But he doesn't actually live in the town. He lives way out of town and remodels rich people's fancy-pantsy houses. He has a client—let's call them "The Smiths." They were away, and I was able to use their relatively good internet. I had done a couple of days of login rewards, and then my uncle had some other things to do, so I went back to my brother's place for a week.

I was at 9/10 rewards when the call came in for me to go back to work for my uncle. A family friend was driving there, and had I not gone with said person, I would have forced my uncle to drive out to get me and go back to the town, which would have ticked off a few people. So I had to go. I spent one night in town, since we arrived late. I was hoping my phone would work so I could get the last login reward for the sweet SP. But, T-Mobile sucks in semi-rural areas, and I could only get phone service, but not data.

There were only two days left to get the last login reward, and I was struggling to make it work. We went out of town where he lived, and I had no cell service whatsoever. My uncle has a hotspot, but he isn't too generous with sharing it, and he didn't the first day.

The second day out of town and last day of the event, we were going to some other client's house that had internet. I brought my laptop, and after a while, I was able to connect to the internet. I just needed to log in and get the 10th reward. What's this? A 150MB update? Damn. I had my laptop sitting there downloading while I did some yard work. I came back. Update is done, aaaand another 2GB update. WTF? I let it keep going, and just as we were about done working at that house, the update was finishing. My uncle was packing up the truck, and I was trying to be a little slow about the last couple of things I had to do. The update finished. Unpacking, installing, and all that hoohah. It finished. I'm logging in. It's processing bulk data. Finished processing bulk data. It's not moving. "What the fuck are you doing?" my uncle says. "Let's get going. Jesus Christ…" He's not a very patient man. I have to close my laptop and get in the truck. So close.

Later in the evening, I asked to use his hotspot. He reluctantly agrees. I try several times to log in, but it just never goes through. It keeps processing bulk data, then the bulk data is finished, but it just never moves on. I look up some things online. I try verifying the cache, but it keeps saying some indices were not available. I read that if I have the test server enabled, that often happens. After disabling the test server, I can verify, and it detects some additional files or something like that and deletes them. I try logging in again. Still hangs at "finished processing bulk data." I read elsewhere that refreshing the client works. I try that. It starts downloading another 2GB upload. I freak out and close the launcher. I open it up again. It says it's ready. I try logging in again. It hangs again. I'm ready to throw my laptop through the window at this point. I close my laptop and wait for my last attempt.

The Smith's have the good internet, and they live within walking distance. But they are home now, and I'm not really supposed to go there. As night falls, I do a reconnaissance walk on the road by their house. I identify a spot that seems fairly well-hidden behind their car. I crouch there and pull out my laptop, and it can connect to their network. I'm trying to log in over a few minutes, and it just refuses to move past "finished processing bulk data." A door opens. I lean to the side to see past the car, and I see someone's silhouette standing in their doorway. Said person is too far and obscured to see where they're looking, but it seems that their body is angled right at my hiding spot. My heart is beating in my throat and I really need to poop all the sudden. I have worked at their house, and I know they have something of a security system, but I'm not sure how robust it is. Do they have a motion sensor or some thermal camera and detected me? I close my laptop and sleuth off to the side and power walk it back up the road and go home. A grown ass-man sneaking around near someone's property, trying to catch the slightest gust of Wi-Fi. Pathetic.

I thought about returning much later in the night, but it just wasn't worth it. I stopped playing EVE last time when I got a bit too involved with station trading, and it was stressing me out. Now I'm just trying to log in and am already super stressed. I sit here, license-less, car-less, internet-less, 10th-day-login-reward-less. Optionless. Somehow not so happy with the way things are going right now. Like I have absolutely no control over things, and even logging in for 2 minutes seems to be too much to ask for.

I don't ask for sympathy. I just felt like expressing my frustrations. I don't really blame anyone or any entity in particular. It's just a lot of specific circumstances that led me to this position, and as soon as I can get my DL again, I am out. I will likely see you all in space somewhere, in maybe about 2 months when my alt is ready to cyno all my stuff to a more secure location…

Abandoned Structures, SiSi, and Checking to See what your Enemies Have Staged in a Particular Structure

    Posted: 22 May 2020 02:02 PM PDT

In light of the upcoming patch that introduces the "abandoned" state to structures, I was thinking about how this is going to work in practice. Basically nobody fuels their structures on SiSi, so damn near everything ends up going abandoned before the next mirror happens. Now that those structures will drop loot, won't it be advantageous for people to log into sisi, shoot the hostile structures in their space, and see what those hostiles have staged? For instance, if theres a hostile fort nearby on TQ and you think they have a dreadbomb staged there, you can just hop on to sisi, bash that fort, and check the drops to see whether there are in fact dreads there. I can't be the only one that sees this becoming a problem.

In a different context, you can also check which structures are worth bashing for a profit using sisi. If you find an abandoned structure on TQ, you can just go to SiSi, bash it with a titan completely afk, and see what drops. Based on that, you can choose to hit it on TQ and actually pay attention, or move on to the next one. It kind of defeats the purpose of the patch, in terms of cleaning up unwanted space trash.

Throwback... Friday? One of my favorite old eve online vids

How is the game now compared to 4 years ago?

    Posted: 22 May 2020 01:55 PM PDT

Hi i played eve about 4 years ago for some time and i loved its atmosphere and the way money making works with all its possibilities.

I have been a part of a mining corp and a pvp corp later on. But i still consider myself a fairly new player since the game is so complex. I have been in a few battles with the pvp corp fleet and it was amazing. However i mainly spend my time doing solo mission running which i also liked.

    But....

After a while i lost my patience with the slow pace the game sometimes has and were getting bored.

But im sure lots had changed and more content is added over the years so i really want to know of there is a new form of doing solo mission or other pve content you can jump fast into. Or is there maybe a easier way of grouping up for certain content maybe even like a group finder tool like in other mmos.

And for pvp i feel the same. The whole sandbox thing is great but i would like a faster way of getting in pvp like a form of arena type content, just to break the normally slow pace of the game.

So did any of these changes were made in these past years and updates?
