Posted: 02 Aug 2020 06:29 PM PDT Loading alts into the arena to increase rankings is the arena-pvp equivalent of dropping titans on people in null. Welcome to shitlord club "elite pvpers", we are all trash together now. [link] [comments] |

zKillboard's "paper cuts", aka, what can be improved? Posted: 02 Aug 2020 12:33 PM PDT Hi all! What are some things that need to be improved on zKillboard? I know of a couple, but I'd like to add to the list. Things I know:
I look forward to any constructive criticism being provided. Rather than putting focus into zkill2.0, which got shot down earlier this past week, I will put focus into what we have today and improve upon the existing code base. Suggested fixes:

Posted: 02 Aug 2020 10:53 PM PDT I want to start playing Eve Online, is it worth it? I was told that I am too late to the gane and that playing without paying doesn't make sense. Was I advised correctly? Also, any tip about starting in Eve is welcome. [link] [comments] |

Arenas are dead on arrival because even fights are fights you should never take in eve. Posted: 02 Aug 2020 02:24 PM PDT Don't read this it's stupid. Eve is, has always been, and (for the most part) will always be a game where you try to force your enemy to take a fight they otherwise shouldn't or wouldn't. On the micro level, that means getting someone to overextend or feed tackle into you. On the macro level, it means catching people during move ops, splitting fleets, or putting your opponent in such a dire situation that they have to take the fight. The elite groups are great at this. Their comps, fits, tactics, and pilots excel at making you feed to them when you should just...not. And the arena has laid bare just what this skillset exactly is. It's not their ability to fly their ships, or the theory crafting, or their coordination, or grid awareness, or micro. Those are all there for some pilots, and not for others. It's their ability to force a fight where their comp, fits, and tactics give them an advantage that make them successful. It's more RTS or MOBA than twitch shooter. And it's fun. More power to 'em. But the arena isn't eve in the wild; it's eve with guardrails. In the arena, the fight is forced. There's no one there who doesn't want to be. It all comes down to your flying, your fit, and your ability. Yeah, there's lots of aspects that determine the winner. There are meta fits, optimal strategies, and noodle brains that click approach, overheat everything, and hope for the best. But you're not really splitting fleets apart in a 5 person FFA brawl. If you get gangbanged by the other 4 dessies, you're probably gonna die, no matter what you do. If you come up against your perfect counter in the 2v2 cruiser brawls, you're gonna have a bad fight. You might win - but it won't be easy, and you might lose ships. That's the point. What we've seen from a handful of the heretofore successful pvp'ers is an absolute unwillingness to accept any of this shit. They are simply unwilling to engage with other pilots on an even moderately level playing field - because outside of the arena, if you take an even fight, you've already lost. So they bling the shit out of T1 cruisers, form collusion channels, run dozens of alts in FFAs to try and rig the game, tag people in HS they don't want to fly against, and do literally everything they can to get back to their comfort zone: forcing people to take a fight they otherwise wouldn't. If you had to choose to go against 2 10b high-grade caracals in your 40m vexors, you would choose not to. If you had to choose to go against 1 dude and 2 of his alts and his friends alts in your 25m dessie, you wouldn't. But that's the game - that's how they win. These players have to defend this as completely justified. It's CCP's fault, really. They didn't anticipate that their players would try to game the system. Obviously if they didn't want them to bling the hell out of their ships, they would've restricted it. But since they didn't; well, of course they're going to do it. Because that's the game. It's not about winning an even fight on your skill alone. It never has been for them. The elite players in eve aren't necessarily the best individual pilots, mechanically. Many are; many are not. However, damn near all of them are excellent at making worse pilots make bad decisions that result in green killboards. CCP is toying with a new medium for pvp in eve that obsoletes these players. A medium where it's possible - not right now, but in the future when CCP pulls their head out of their ass and actually puts some guardrails on this - for the best pilot to just win. I'm positive that some of the people on the top of the leaderboard will adapt. Many will not. But what we're watching is a group of people who have found the equivalent of an exploit crowing about how it's CCP's fault, really, and they are totally blameless for rigging the game. That's how deeply entrenched their mindset is - ANYTHING that gives you an edge is fair game. ANYTHING that gives your opponent a handicap is fair game. They'd be foolish NOT to form collusion channels. This is by no means the only reason arenas aren't working. Balance in eve has always been more in line with patches for single player games than rapid, targeted balance for other multiplayer games. Some ships are simply better in the arena than others - not all are viable. The ranking system is pants-on-head stupid. But the players themselves are the core problem. The sooner CCP creates rules to limit, prevent, and punish - including outright bans for collusion as are present in many other games with instanced PVP - these strategies, the better. Until then, arenas are dead on arrival. The people most likely to engage with them are the people most likely to abuse them simply to assuage their own egos, to make sure that everyone knows they are, in fact, the best. You were warned at the top. [link] [comments] |

FFA matchmaking four friends clicking at once. Posted: 02 Aug 2020 04:00 PM PDT Activating filaments at the same time as alliance mates, put at least two of us in the same abyss every time, in one instance it put all four of us with a random pilot (rip). I'm sure others have already noticed this, I'm not even sure how CCP could 'fix' it, but given there is a competitive element thought it was worth discussing. I could just sit there with my alts and roll the dice, where I get lucky I use both my accounts to try and kill the others then kill my alt for the win. The barrier to get top 100 is not really many wins. [link] [comments] |
