Empires of Eve & The T20 Scandal

    Posted: 31 Oct 2020 04:53 PM PDT

Sorry to dig up old bones but I, like I'm sure many people, are going through the new Empires of Eve book. Having never read the original, again like I'm sure many others, I started with the first one. There's been a few inaccuracies that I've noticed (beyond just simplifying things and small mistakes like calling Machariels battlecruisers) but all in all a very well written book and it's been a blast so far to read. If you haven't and you are at all interested in the history of EvE I can't think of a better summarized source.

The reason I make this post though is that a few things are glossed over a bit in the book, mostly for brevity no doubt. However one thing that struck me quite hard is just how altered the history of the t20 scandal is in the book. Particularly this passage:

One of the posts by the hacker Kugutsumen identified a CCP developer by the name of "CCP T20" as a high-level member within Band of Brothers. Worse, the post alleged that he had illegitimately used his developer powers to help Band of Brothers acquire a cache of Blueprint Originals.

After an internal investigation, CCP Games determined that this particular accusation was true, and the company decided that the best way to deal with the situation was to come clean and resolve the situation publicly. T20 himself—whose real name was never revealed to the public—was made to write a post on CCP's website apologizing for the impropriety.

CCP did not just decide the best way to deal with it was to come clean, in fact the opposite. The tried bury it, wiping out mention of it on the forums and banning kugu until he made his own set of forums (which for years was a far better place than the official CAOD). They fessed up after they no longer had any choice, only admitted to the absolute minimum that was already given evidence towards, and didn't even fire t20. It was a disgrace then and honestly I think it's still a disgrace. And the public face driving all this was Kieron who was community manager at the time (or whatever his official title was). Which I'm sure some people who ever actually dealt with him even prior to this event can attest he was a huge piece of shit.

So for anyone reading about this for the first time because you are new, that is not what happened. The book, intentionally or otherwise, is very misleading towards what CCP did in response to the t20 scandal. CCP is certainly not the good guy getting it's name blackened by some rogue dev. It's attempted coverup and ultimate handling is practically as bad as the cheating itself.

Otherwise looking forward to continuing reading it and getting in Volume II!

TL;DR Empires of EvE is awesome but the T20 scandal bit is a bit biased in favor of CCP, and fuck you Kieron.

Is the Navy Raven worth it?

    Posted: 31 Oct 2020 04:35 PM PDT

So, i have a Raven, I use it to run level 4 Missions. So far, i have found myself satisfied with its performance over extreme range as should be expected. Recently, I have earned a lot of Isk, and I am starting to get into the area where i can think of what ship i want to buy next. One idea was to buy a Navy Raven. Which has 2 More Launchers, so that is nice. Who does not like More Bang? The thing is, it looses its rate of Fire Bonus, and a Navy Raven is an expensive Ship.
My Question is if y'all think a navy raven is a worthwhile stepping stone on my way to a Golem (which i can right now neither afford nor even fly) or should i just save the Money and put it into something else.

Finally, i understand that, as soon as someone sais "level 4 mission" half of all answers are immediatly sponsored by the Rattlesnake gang. please dont tell me I should get a Rattlesnake. I can not fly a Rattlesnake right now, i dont have the skills, and my Skillqueue is already planned out for Months. I am working to make sure i can use Tier 2 Cruise Missiles, that takes time. Besides i like the Optics of the Raven so much better.

I started playing again after a little over 6 - 7 months. I have no idea what is going on. I am in Jita, everything is expensive, it takes 45 jumps to go to Amarr, why? What is Triglavian Space? Also, I get a warning sound every time I want to sell/buy something, is it a bug? Is there finally a way to disable the red dot?
