Outcome of the war doesn't even matter

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 08:29 PM PST

I don't know about anyone else but I don't even care about the outcome of the war anymore. The shear amount of destruction, both in ships and structures was needed in this game.

I have no misconceptions that PAPI will not remove goons from the game, and I would actually be sad if it did as eve needs all the players it can get. However this destruction was needed as it was getting to a point were if this didn't happen soon it was never going to, as the structure spam and uncontrolled isk proliferation is out of control.

Anyway just my 2 cents from a nobody who has had a shit ton of fun blowing up internet pixels.

Question About Corpses and Capitalization of Frozen/frozen

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 10:59 PM PST

I recently acquired https://imgur.com/EoGbxYx which has frozen as lowercase. Most of the corpses I have, Frozen is uppercase. A potential buyer for said corpse got a little bothered by this but I'm leaning toward that the lowercase may be because of the age of the corpse, perhaps?

I have others that frozen is lowercase as well and a friend showed me some from his collection https://prnt.sc/w8a6zb

The majority of the characters that the lowercase comes from seem to be born in 2011 or earlier.

I found this https://imgur.com/wS48d on the old forums, where the corpse name was all in caps on the item select window. Did this font change maybe effect it going from frozen to Frozen?

    Thanks for any reply.

    Make Battleships Great Again

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 08:33 AM PST

Upfront disclaimer: I do not have a perfect solution to the problem known as Battleships. I would like to attempt, however, to explore the challenges and engage the r/eve hive mind for solutions we can suggest for CCP to sit on and never implement consider.

    The problem

    Outside of niche roles and running L4 missions, fleet combat is basically HAC's online. The reason for that is that battleships have too few upsides and many, many disadvantages. The disadvantages are well known and just a few include;

    • They are very slow to align
    • They are very slow in warp
    • They are highly vulnerable to bombs
    • Their tracking is poor
    • Their resists are meh
    • They can be countered effectively by pretty much every single other fleet type including HAW dreads

We could go on. In addition HAC's, which cost less than BS now, can do the work of battleships without any of the limitations AND they have ADC's which are ridiculously good modules and completely negate the one advantage of BS (the EHP).

    Potential solutions

The question then, is what can be done to give battleships, which should have a significant role in combat fleets, an actual role again apart from dying en masse to HAC's and bombers?

    A few suggestions for improvement that may or may not be terrible;

    • Increase base EHP by 30% for all battleships. Battleships cost about 10% of a dread, but have only 6.5% of the EHP (example - with three T1 trimarks, T2 damage control, 2 x T2 plates, and 2 x T2 multipectrums a Megathron has 123k EHP, while a Moros has 1.82m EHP)
    • Introduce something along the lines of an ADC/emergency hull energizer module for battleships - not as powerful as either, and perhaps limited to a couple of uses, but something that allows a little extra survivability when it matters
    • Make in-warp speed faster. I get the slow align time, and that's enough. There is no reason battleships should be so slow during warp.
    • Allow weapon bonuses on battleships to be applied to all weapon sizes. This would allow battleship fleets the option of fitting for lower range/damage but gain the ability to compete against HAC fleets, which otherwise large turrets can't track. Battleships would act as a slow, tough, all sizes weapons platform.

Anyway, these are just ideas. Some of them probably not great. I imagine many of you have better ideas.

I would love to regularly fly battleships in fleets again, and see them being used as mainline DPS ships, while still allowing HAC's to retain all of their advantages. In other words - there is no need to gimp HAC's, just Make Battleships Great Again.

    Yours sincerely,

    Dr Mibbles

Can I Bring My Nighthawk? - Solo Brawling Nighthawk PvP

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 07:34 AM PST

New player here, a bit lost of a few things and would appreciate help!

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 04:39 PM PST

So I started off playing to Quills guide on youtube and its been tremendously helpful so far, but I have a few questions that have yet to be answer.

Is there actually a goal to the game or should I just try and acquire as much currency and ships as I can and upgrade them to the best of my (affordable) ability?

I've jumped into a few wormholes to do some of the data/relic analyzer things, and I've had luck with a couple of them, but I've also gotten destroyed real bad by npcs/players, so 2 questions come from this. Over time will these little ships I have get stronger in HP and DMG thru the skills and stuff? I was pretty much 1 hit each time and I'm wondering how one even defends against that. Also, will hacking become easier as I skill up on it? Of the 10 or so relics I've hacked I've probably only succeeded twice.

I was trying my luck in combat zone things (little green markers on the system map) and most of them were fairly easy until I got to one where I was just bombarded with missles, warp scramblers, slowy-downy thingys, and lost a ship I really liked pretty quick. How can I tell if these zones are gonna be a hard fight or not? Or is it just luck of the draw?

Is there NPCs I can sell directly too or is all the selling of loot done on the market?

Is there anything I should be concentrating on as a newbie? Or is it entirely up to my decision on play style?

Lastly, one of my industry missions I got destroyed and lost a blueprint that I was granted. Is there a way to get that blueprint back? I can't finish the mission without it.

Thanks in advance for all and any help! Looking forward to becoming a decent player lol.

    CCPLS - FW Bots

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 08:16 AM PST

    https://zkillboard.com/constellation/20000786/

calmil will lose the constellation not due to warfare, but to relentless fw bots. Please help. The first page is 80% bot kills. This is the most ridiculous example I've seen in a while.

In addition, there should be some mechanic that if a ship dips the fuck out of a plex the second another ship slides in, restting the timer should be faster or instant depending on what ship was capturing the plex. Ninja oplexing without some type of counter is highkey cancer.

side note, elite pvp as well on page 2 of the constellation kb https://zkillboard.com/kill/89424128/ 3 carriers (and other stuff) vs 2 bc's

    Triglavians in HS

Hey. I was mining in HS and found that I was surrounded by Triglavian ships in a 0.6 system (around 10). What was the cause of this? Is nowhere in HS relatively safe?

How can I apply corp-wide insurance on my ship(s)?

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 11:53 PM PST

    Hey guys,

So I'm just a HiSec carebear (sorry!) who's living quite happily in his little corp with his alts. I've got a basic fleet of miners/haulers that I want to keep in my corp hangars but I noticed that, understandably, moving a ship into a corp hangar invalidates its individual insurance policy, as said insurance is taken out for a given pilot.

Now I remember once somewhat accidentally buying corporation insurance for a ship, the amount being deducted from the corp wallet, but I can't seem to replicate that again.

So might someone please kindly explain to me the process for getting a ship insured under a corporation insurance policy that allows that ship to be stored in corp hangars and transferred freely between corp members without voiding the insurance?

    Thanks!
