When previewing a ship, it should show various smaller ships occasionally zooming by it, so you really get an idea oh big they are

    Posted: 28 Feb 2021 04:19 AM PST

It's a little hard to get an idea of what (for example) a Titan looks like next to your tiny little frig or whatever, so having the preview of ships show smaller ships zooming by it occasionally would add a nice touch of perspective.

We have been at war for a while with another corp because of their siege on my hole. I then hired a group to take control of their hole at the same time. The mercenary group is not big enough to have hole control around the clock. I have manipulated their fleet formations for days, breaking their fleet up in two. One half sieging my empty hole and the other is defending their hole.

If you read this and think you can field 30+ people for the timers at 5am eve time 28/02/21 and again for the structure timer after that, you can have what drops. I just want them gone. They had no idea we were coming and their assets are in that structure. we have already done the first timer.

If you want this content, open a convo with The Darkmessiah Draco in game.

The rewards of EVE aren't enough to justify the downsides

    Posted: 01 Mar 2021 01:12 AM PST

I've been playing EVE on and off since around 2008 and honestly I love it. I think that it's a wonderful game that people should experience at least once. There's a lot of great ideas about what an MMO can be and out of all the MMOs on the market EVE is the only one that feels like a world filled with real people. You all know this so I wont bore you with all the things that make EVE amazing.

However as much as EVE is great there are some major problems with it that make it simply not worth the average gamer's time and it all boils down to this.

The grind required to compete in pvp is far too much and the risks in engaging in pvp are too high.

Long long ago, I had dreams of being a space pirate. I remember when people would ransom others and I remember when the small gang pvp... at least kind of existed.... somewhere? I remember that I had fantasies of solo pvp and I remember flipping a lot of cans in high sec. I went through a couple of corps, I went to nullsec, I went to lowsec, I scammed in Jita like a peasant, I mined like a peasant, I hauled like a peasant. Recently I learned that nullsec explo is decent money so I explored like a peasant too. However all the money making endeavors in EVE.... aren't fun. PvE combat isn't exciting or engaging and the only reason why I ever did it was to fund my ever-growing pile of broken merlins and caracals.

Maybe I just suck? I mean I probably do but I know I have learned things(effective range, tank types, logi, dictors, etc... etc...). However the main thing I learned was what fights I could take and I could not take and I learned that it was most of them. I also learned that it would take months to years for me to fly what I wanted to fly and do what I wanted to do in the game and that was assuming that the content I imagined at higher skill levels actually existed in the game.

I've spent 100x more time searching for the content I want to partake in then actually partaking in it and that alone should be enough for a rational person to quit within the first week but I persisted for months, I tried different things, I tried really hard but the design of the game makes it feel like I'm squeezing water from a stone and at some point you just want to drop the stone. This game is a Sisyphus simulator. I wish I had more to say about it, some nuance or insight that could remedy my griping but I really don't. I could make a list of gripes but I'm sure that they are all common and I'm sure CCP has considered all of them and discarded them as they most likely would conflict with their idealism of a pure simulation or simply be too radical too implement at such a late point in the game.

I apologize if you heard all of this before (I'm sure you have) but I wanted to express my frustration at a game that is both amazing and horrible at the same time. Perhaps I'll try again in 5 years or so.

As the title says I feel like I'm hitting a bit of a roadblock in terms of motivation/enjoyment because I feel like I don't know what to do or feel like I have the attention span to do it.

I was running missions in a low sec area and got stasis'd and blown up in a matter of seconds. I have absolutely no idea what happened and I lost my sweet little rifter. This game is wild and I love it, that is all.

    The Problem With Highsec Ganking

    Posted: 28 Feb 2021 11:26 AM PST

This is not a rant about ganking itself. It has a place in the game and provides content to an otherwise intensely boring highsec experience. I bought and fitted about 50 Catalystst myself last year and was seriously considering either joining the nice people in code or doing some private ganking (as opposed to private dancing) myself for the lulz, but gave up on the idea as it felt kind of too single minded. The problem with ganking is the lack of counter play.

There is almost no way to counter that isn't prohibitively expensive, i.e. out of proportion in cost in terms of isk, sec status or time vs reward. You'd need a fleet of Griffins to counter a gate gank with good intel on who's about to get ganked, or someone with a cheap arty thrasher to blow up the loot before it gets scooped, or someone with an agile ship to scoop the loot himself and get away with it before he gets popped (good luck with that) or a smarty fit Praxis to kill everything before the gank can happen. For highsec anom ganks you'd need to tank the rats (not really a problem) and the gankers before you can kill them. For highsec Venture miners (God save their souls), you'd need to watch dscan like a hawk and be aligned out at all times. Highsec mission runners in bling ships actually have the easiest counter as the 20 to 30 Catalysts are difficult to ignore on dscan and getting those Catas into position inside the gates can be very problematic.

    Etc.

The problem with all of the above is that the effort involved is immensely out of proportion to the cost to the ganker. To be fair, before the current scarcity, when Talos ganking was still profitable, it used to be worse. But, as it currently stands in the adapt or die meta that is eve, the current costs to a group of gankers involve the number of catalysts required to pop the ship before the police show up, someone to bump and scoop and someone to scan or provide a warp in. It's cheap, easy and fun as long as your ambitions are low and your ability to rinse and repeat is on par with highsec mining and missioning. This versus countering it which costs way more and provides no profit incentive while ganking involves decent profit and some fun.

The biggest problem that I see in improving the situation is that the previous system of bounties simply did not work. Perhaps not allowing people with a sec status lower than -5 to dock or tether in highsec would help, but I already see the screams from lowsec pirate visitors to highsec. So scratch that. Adding a tax to pvp kills in highsec that goes up with the number of kills? I don't like that one either. Perhaps giving Concord LP to players who kill gankers could be a thing? This could possibly be a solution if the LP is set right (It's CCP so it probably won't be).

    Any ideas?
