"Nomad" Day 3/4: Non-Consensual Hole Probing

    Posted: 21 Apr 2021 10:38 PM PDT

Sharing the content has given me a reason to log in lately. May not seem like much, but it keeps me out of bed and helps give me the energy to complete my real life responsibilities. So thank you!

    Check out previous updates:

    Day 1.5: A New Beginning

Day 2: I'm Scared of Mining Lasers

    Day 3 & 4: Non-Consensual Hole Probing

    Daily Log -- Day 3

My first experience of what I will call "the drought". I logged in to find 13 signatures with nine of them being wormholes. Of the nine there was the usual HS and C3 connection, two more were C5s, one C4, two LS, and two NS. And to make things even better, the HS system also had a Thera connection. I have never in my life seen such a steady stream of people running a train on a hole like this. And I've had holes 2 jumps from Jita.

To make it even better the C3 had no sites. I was about ready to call it a day when my godlike PvP instincts kicked in. It was a Heron chillin' off the sun. I was in my Astero but it was fit for exploration. Logging in my Orca for the sake of fitting services seemed like a bad idea given the amount of people that had come through and I didn't want to spook the Heron. So instead I went to a station in the HS system and refit there.

I popped back in the hole spamming "V" on my keyboard. I see him, "[Redacted]'s Heron".

With my adrenaline pumped, shaky, super jacked right arm fumbling with the mouse and my slightly less jacked left appendage gripping a coffee. I found the poor bastard running a relic site.

My warp-in put him 100k off of me. Easy fix. I found something warpable behind him, warped there, then back to the site at range. 10k off. At this point there's two cans left and they're completing one of them. I go sit at the other one and wait with shaky breaths. I let him complete the final can then tackle him. With my new found knowledge of the Shift+F combo my drones were on him faster than Nestle is gonna be on the first Martian lake. It wasn't fair, but I don't care. I like shooting things that can't shoot back. He died, and so did his pod.

I grab his corpse to add to the museum compartment of my Orca and loot the Heron. He had one of those fancy, faction scanner things. Estimated value at 140 somethin million! Within 10 minutes I made up all of the time I lost that would have been spent running C3's. Plus a little green on the board always gets me hard when I'm used to so much red.

    Abyssals

To finish this night off I pulled out of the hole and set course to Amarr. I had run abyssals before in the Gila but I wanted to try out the frigate variation. I bought myself a Hawk given that my skill layout is absolute dog-shit but my missiles are superb and I tried out a T1 Dark. Easy-fucking-peasy I tell ya. I'm going to get a second character involved and take a crack at T3s next time.

    Day 4

This session was significantly better than the last. Even though the day ended with no PvP I began streaming to two people. I was doing some science experiments with the sleepers when I began to realize that maybe the Gila wasn't as great at those sites as I once thought.

Somebody said hello, I said hello, he asked for my playlist, I try and send him my playlist, then my ass is in half armor. Warp off, leave my drones, then come back for revenge. Except one of those sleepers killed one of my drones and the other was dangerously close to perishing as well. Now I was really pissed. But unfortunately I'm still bad and kept getting run down to 5% shield, warping off, and repeating. I eventually cleared the site but it was not worth the effort. (outpost frontiers...)

I ran back into the home hole switched into my Astero and fit for exploration. There was a C1 connection with a few relic sites. In one of the sites three of the cans had a bunch of intact armor plates and I made myself another easy few hundred million.

Over the last few days and with the hours I've spent in P.I., I have come to terms with the fact that I'm not a fan. Those hours I would spend clicking away at a planet I will now be spending dying in the abyss.

    Conclusion

It's about time I move again. I'm going to be searching long, hard, and far for a shattered wormhole as my next area of operation. Hopefully this way I will have some interesting scenery and a few more options for content. One of my major goals in Eve is to become a better solo PvP pilot and develop my content generation skills. Unfortunately I feel a little trapped due to the fact I only have 20 mil in my wallet. So I will continue to crab until day 7 and then I plan on pushing hard with PvP. Even still, I'm enjoying the shots of adrenaline from killing people who can't fend for themselves.

Big thanks to all of you who have reached out to me, given me places to socialize, and offering your support given my RL situation. Thanks for being such a great community. See you next time.

    Shameless Plug:

I stream now, in spite of all of your warnings and threats ;)

So npc nullsec gates should become a little more interesting now.

UPDATE: The gates will act the same way belts do, so it's simply an additional spawn point. No additional conditions need to be met - CCP Swift

Tales from a Solo Ninja Huffer Part 2

    Posted: 21 Apr 2021 07:33 PM PDT

Feast and famine, and the benefits of being in a corporation.

Hello my fellow capsuleers and thank you for the amazing response from my first post. I am more than happy to keeping sharing my experiences, and create more discussions about huffing.

I'm currently writing this as I sit patiently pulling in my 3rd load of C540 from a vital reservoir I managed to find that had been cleared of rats already, and not a soul in site for the last 2 1/2 hours, save me, and this beautiful cloud of gas in a C5 wormhole. There's a bountiful reservoir I can go to next too, so this night isn't over yet.

I'm elated too, especially after waking up last fridaythis weekend and not being able to find a decent chain that wasn't crawling with weekenders, or serious wormhole corps going about their business. I saw wolf-rayet fleets, rolling praxii, eviction corps, and plenty of opportunistic hunters who would have loved to get their scrams on my venture.

A couple of days of small hauls, lots of fruitless scanning, and lots of time has led to me to muse about the benefits of being in a corporation. People scanning, running intel, finding content, watching your back, rolling holes, someone to talk with, huff with, etc.

On that front, I actually took my first steps toward some T3 production, and began efficiency research on a stack of blueprints. This is new territory for me, so my skills have been woefully lacking, but it's been interesting just finding out what blueprints I needed, and the skills to get more of them done faster. Yet another thing I couldn't be doing without corporation support.

I've had lots of time to watch the rookie help channel as well, and it pains me knowing good isk isn't that far away from a new player and yet they're stuck grinding missions, or chopping away at veldspar in high sec, fighting off belt rats and gank baiters. I try to share my fit when I can.

Speaking of which, I did link the fit in the comments of my first post, but I will repost it here as well. I've tried to fine tune it to maximize scanning efficiency so I can find clouds and spend as much time in them as possible. It's doing the trick, but I'm open to suggestions. I've also picked up scanning implants for slot 6 and 7, and the t1 gas implant for slot 8, so I would say the whole venture (ahaha) is paying for itself quite well and then some.

Thank you all for reading this far, I've enjoyed being able to share, and have something to do while I wait for enough isk to get omega, rats to spawn, and my hold to fill.

    Here is my fit:

    [Venture]

    Warp Core Stabilizer I

    5MN Cold-Gas Enduring Microwarpdrive

    Scan Acquisition Array I

    Scan Rangefinding Array I

    Gas Cloud Harvester I

    Gas Cloud Harvester I

    Core Probe Launcher I

    Small Signal Focusing Kit I

    Small Signal Focusing Kit I

    Small Gravity Capacitor Upgrade I

when did backgrounds get taken out of the game

    Posted: 22 Apr 2021 01:13 AM PDT

new patch, new alpha account, new character, went to do a little quality assurance of the new player starting experience, didn't get to the end of the character creator when I saw the conspicuous absence of the tube child background for my new Deteis, now I'm unreasonably bummed out, those backgrounds were in the game forever and meant nothing except for RP and immersion

Introducing Eve Online Events - Public Calendar for ALL of New Eden

    Posted: 21 Apr 2021 03:15 AM PDT

So, some of you guys know me as Kshal Aideron. I'm the person who likes to go around and find new players and lure them to my FUNny Newbro Roam on Wednesday evenings. ;-)

A lot of people don't know this, but I only started playing January of last year. One of the things that annoyed me as a new player, you have to luck into finding someone doing public events or know someone who can point you in the right direction. I was lucky enough to find the NPSI community because someone linked me to Jin'taan's interview with the legendary Greygal of Redemption Road who does monthly newbro roams.

It shouldn't be this hard to find something to do on a Friday night for someone who doesn't want to commit to a corp quite yet. There's PLENTY of groups doing public things. So why not make an event calendar that allows EVERYONE to post events.

    Introducing https://www.eveonlineevents.com/

    • Anyone who has an account can log in and add an event. If you see an event you want to join, you can log in (click the little dude up in the upper right hand corner of the screen), go to the event and subscribe to it. This doesn't "do" anything other than let the people involved know who might be coming.

    • If you're not organizing a public event, but know of one coming up and want to add it, you can! Just fill out the form to the best of your ability.

    • If you're an FC, group leadership, or event organizer hit me up with an in game mail requesting to get a role that allows your events to be added immediately, without moderation. All others will appear once admin has approved them.

    • If you're just looking for a few people to do missions/abyssals with you on a Saturday night, schedule it ahead of time!

    • Event types that you can add (let me know if I missed one): PVP fleet, PVE Fleet (missions), PVE (abyssal), PVE (mining), Incursion Fleet, PVP (small gang), Real Life Event, CCP Event, Stream Event

    • Desto space needs to be typed in currently. This is because I'm allowing real life events and in the case of something like Eve Vegas, the desto is the hotel ;-)

    • Experience level: you can choose any, rookie, intermediate, advanced. If your event is "advanced but new players are welcome to try" make sure to note this in the description.

    • Doctrine: type it in for now. In a future upgrade we'll allow you to link to other sources, like eve workbench.

    • You can also let people know if there's free ships/srp (need to add the /srp still), if the event is alpha friendly and streamer friendly!

And finally, streamers and content creators! If you want to schedule a stream ahead of time, or a video premier, PLEASE DO! If you do Eve contests, you can add those as well.

The only rules (until someone forces me to add rules) are the event must be a real event, public, and not meant to lure people to you to gank.

Have fun and let me know what else it needs (search and filters are hopefully coming this weekend, same with official group pages).

    Living the Meme

    Posted: 21 Apr 2021 06:30 AM PDT

So, I have most of the basic skills for fitting, exploration, PI (about 90 million SP). What should I skill for next that's fun and/or profitable without being mindnumbingly boring?

    Posted: 21 Apr 2021 02:39 PM PDT

I've had my fill of boring with PI.

By "most of the skills I need", I mean level 4-5. I could just try and hit all 5s with my current skills (and I definitely will with some of them), but I'm curious about what else I could train for that won't take a year.

Questions about one account on 2 devices (I’m new)

    Posted: 21 Apr 2021 07:56 PM PDT

Hello, I'm very new to the game but am really enjoying it so far. I've just upgraded to Omega.

I tend to travel a lot and am planning to install a copy of the game on my laptop in addition to my current desktop installation and I have a few questions I'm hoping to get some help with:

    1. Is it ok to use the same account on a laptop and a desktop? The laptop is for travel so there would be no scenario where they're logged in at the same time. This forum post indicates that this is OK but it's quite old (and marked as archived) so I just wanted to check here to be sure.
    2. Is there a way I can sync my settings/presets/overview etc? Perhaps by copying som files to Dropbox so I can paste them in the proper locations on each device? (Desktop is Windows, laptop is a Mac). If this is possible, which files would I have to copy?

Thanks so much in advance! Apologies if these are asked a lot, I did search but most questions are about multiple accounts being used at once.
