New Surgical Strike Patch Also Has Updated Ship Models!

    Posted: 11 Apr 2020 01:13 AM PDT

I was running around Sisi and I noticed several of the ship models will change in the new Surgical Strike Patch. I took some high quality photos below for you all to see. If you zoom in really closely you can see some minor differences to the hull contours on the Lif. This made me do some digging. And sure enough I also noticed some more significant changes and what appears to be an even more heavily damaged version of the "In Rust We Trust" skins but for all Gallente, Amarr, and Caldari fax models! I checked a bunch of other ships, but these ones seem to be the only models that will change so drastically after the patch. Please let me know if you have spotted any other ship model changes in the new Surgical Strike Patch. Have fun reveling in the beauty of these new ship models logi bros! I know we all can't wait to see these new remastered hulls in action!

    Oppressing lowsec one last time

    AAR:

Tears streaming down our faces we pinged for max FAX to mid for an athanor timer.

The impressive 4 man wall got ready for their last battle, before Hy will insurance fraud them all to get money for his wedding.

Our sexy, sweaty fleet of only the most elite slaved faction battleships started shooting the structure.

The defenders warped in on a ping, but got caught by advanced Tau AD fleet maneuvers. The arty tempests didn't stand much of a chance against the superior machariels, but suddenly local spiked. It was the mighty V0LTA getting shat out of yet another wormhole. After complaining on the russian forums about how gay muninn's are, V0LTA FC Mutafakaz did the only logical thing, and warped his own muninn fleet 150 off us, to start tickling our battleships.

Tau started screaming: "DEEEEEEATH, DEEEEEATH" as 2 of our overpowered Force Auxiliary's loaded grid. Tempests and muninns didn't stand a chance, only the very advanced booshing tactic known as "spearfishing" that V0LTA got taught exclusively from legend olmeca gold started to get annoying.

We were sure we had done it again, another easy victory thanks to our beloved FAX, but we underestimated our opponents. As the newest members of Panfam, V0LTA did not wanna disappoint their allies and batphoned Horde to come join the fun.

The ferox cancer was too much, even for one of our apostles. We did not understand, we were angry, how could they just kill it so easily? It did not matter, we just jumped in more and fought cancer with cancer to emerge victorious and get our loot stolen by a nasty hurricane.

King of the Abyss Tournament - Day 1

    Posted: 10 Apr 2020 10:42 PM PDT

o7 r/Eve, here are the updates on this weekend's King of the Abyss PvP Tournament!

TL;DR – Abyssal PvP tournament April 10-12, 4 winners; 20B ISK, 40 kills in day 1 (Friday), $28 raised to contribute to Eve Workbench/Abyssal Loot Tracker, future ideas/improvements in the last part.

Background: This weekend (starting 10 April @ 11:00 Eve time, ending 12 April @ 23:59 Eve time) I have offered a ton of ISK (see below for total prizes + added amounts) to see who can 1) get the most kills in the Abyssal Proving Arena and 2) destroy the most ISK. All information/numbers will be obtained from Zkillboards Abyssal PvP Tab. Every single capsuleer in New Eden is eligible to be win, all you must do is enter an Abyssal Proving Conduit at the end of a T3 or higher abyssal site and take the fight!

Reward; the good stuff! Originally, I offered 5B ISK to 1) the person with the most kills and 2) the person who destroys the most ISK, but some awesome people have contributed! First, Squizz of Zkill added 5B ISK to first place, 2.5B to second, and 1B ISK to third, increasing the number of winners! After that, Darmoxula of the Darkfire Collective added 1B ISK to second place winner to beef it up. Third, Lionear of Eve Workbench added in 500m ISK to third place.

    This tallies up to; 1st – 10B, 2nd – 3.5B, 3rd – 1.5B and the person who destroys the most ISK – 5B!

Day 1: A ton of kills!! There were a few 1B ISK + ships/pods killed today, but most ships killed were Orthruses. Overall, successful first day of the tournament with there being 37 total ships killed from 0000 to 2359. I consider this tournament a huge success if we see more than 40 kills in a single day, and part of me thinks we'll see this day hit 40 once everyone posts their kills (if people don't have their stuff linked to Zkill, they have to post kills stuff manually).

While I started to plug the kills/ISK into my handy dandy Abyssal PvP Tournament spreadsheet, I realized I would need to wait until Monday to do so, that way I don't miss any kills because people were late to post them. I think I'll need to put in a deadline to have all kills posted by midday on Monday that way I can process it all!

Stream: I decided to stream me doing this (my streaming content is mostly 100% Abyssal PvP) and use money made from stream to go towards some incredible content creators that make my everyday life much, much easier. Money made from donations, subs, bits, and ad revenue will be split up between Veetor who created the Abyssal Loot Tracker and Lionear who created Eve Workbench, to help them run the servers and for the time/dedication these two have put into making all of our Eve lives easier. Total $ made on stream today, including donations, comes out to around $33. $15 (I've gotta pay taxes on subs/bits/ad revenue) will be given to both Lionear and Veetor to help them with server costs of their respective sites. This is something I want to do more of for content creators like this. Once a week I'll designate a stream for content creators – Squizz of Zkillboard is next!

The Future: I'm learning a lot from this!! Going from here, if interest remains high, I'd love to try and do these tournaments once a month. Hopefully we'll see a shake up in the meta (screw you Ikitursas!!) with this new surgical strike patch coming, giving ships more of a chance to kill the Ikitursa! Maybe we'll see the Deimos become a power player? Next time instead of starting at 1100, I'll have it start Friday at 0000 Eve time (not sure why I picked 11, for some reason after DT sounded good). Seeing how it's playing out; I'd love to not only reward whoever gets the most kills but pick out a ship or two that is not normally used the most and award whoever gets the most kills in the ships. For example, 5B ISK goes to whoever gets the most kills with a Sacrilege!

Hopefully over the next two days we see even more kills on the killboard, with new names that aren't normally up there! I'm all for any suggestions/feedback!! If you've got ideas or something that could be done better please tell me. I miss the Alliance Tournament a lot, and I know this won't ever be that, but with enough interest and action it could turn into more. The Proving Grounds are the basic framework for tournament style gameplay, all we need now is a way to spectate and get teams in there!

Can anyone give me a little run-down of how the nullsec local blackout affected the game?

    Posted: 10 Apr 2020 11:51 PM PDT

I've been mostly away from EVE for a while, and while I usually keep an account active and play a couple times a month, I haven't really had the time and energy to do for the past year or so
That means I was completely away for the blackout event, but when it was announced, the idea got me thinking a lot about how it might affect different kinds of player and player groups
Today I was reminded about the blackout, and I'm wondering how it all played out
How did the blackout affect you and your corporation or alliance?
Did you get more fights? Better fights?
Did you have to significantly change your strategies and doctrines?
Was the game more fun or did it become stale or frustrating?
And when the blackout ended, did it feel like a relief, or did you wish it would go on?

An example of why this patch is bad for solo and small gang

    Posted: 10 Apr 2020 03:18 PM PDT

I wanted to illustrate a scenario where this patch penalizes the small-gang/solo players who want to fight outnumbered in enemy space. These people are typically content-generators for the game. While everyone else sits docked up until there's a ping, they wander in hostile territory with brawling ships and are prepared to feed heavily in order to generate content for themselves and others.

Let's taking a 3bil active brawling Nightmare with mid-grade crystals for example:

    Nightmare pre-patch:

    https://i.imgur.com/KSx45Bf.png 87.5k EHP 2040 EHP/s tank (3000 w/ heat) 1333 DPS

    Nightmare post-patch:

    https://i.imgur.com/YlflFg1.png 90.7k EHP 1800 EHP/s tank (2500 w/ heat) 1511 DPS

EDIT: Please note this is just an example of theoretical brawling tank vs DPS numbers pre and post-patch, and this post has nothing to do with the Nightmare specifically, or good Nightmare fits, or anything that's irrelevant to what was changed in the upcoming patch which only includes resistances and brawling DPS.

Now let's assume it's fighting in a 2v1 scenario against two cheap 300mil hull buffer Megathrons.

    Megathron pre-patch:

    https://i.imgur.com/FnX9ATN.png 125k EHP 1389 DPS

    Megathron post-patch:

    https://i.imgur.com/mLwM7zD.png 137k EHP 1576 DPS

Let's dumb down the scenario to assume each side was chugging 3200s and not getting capped out, and that the battleships were fighting in brawl range with 100% application to each other (this patch is supposed to help brawling after all).

    Pre-patch analysis:

It takes the Nightmare 93 seconds to kill a Megathron. In that time, it can tank 2040 out of the 2778 DPS it's receiving, leaving a deficit of 738 DPS, which means it will die after 120 seconds. So it can kill a Megathron BEFORE it dies, at which point it can tank the next Megathron easily and win the fight. The tank can be the heated, and the guns can also be heated, which will mostly cancel each other out (maybe a small advantage one way or the other, but for simplicity I'll just compare unheated numbers). I'm also not doing a complex analysis of shield/armor/hull resistances.

    Post-patch analysis:

It takes the Nightmare 90 seconds to kill a Megathron. In that time, it can only tank 1800 of the 3152 DPS it's receiving, leaving it at a 1352 deficit, which means it will die after 67 seconds. So it will die before it can kill a single Megathron in this 2v1 matchup. And a 3b+ ship will die to only two ships which are each worth 10% of its ISK value.

This Nightmare pilot was always taking a big risk, because even in the first scenario if it had been more than a 2v1 blob then he feeds 3b+. Even if he has a successful roam for awhile, and kills 5-10 ships of varying sizes, it'll probably total up to less ISK than he feeds in the inevitable blob that forms while he's tackled fighting. Raw numbers have always been the most efficient way to fight. But at least before there was a window of operability for people that wanted to "punch up" as people call it.

I've seen some posts saying how this patch doesn't help the blob. How Goons/etc., are still gonna be able to blob you with hundreds of people. This is true in the overall meta.

But that's not what people mean when they talk about solo or small-gang vs the blob. It's the solo guy who ends up fighting 5v1, or the gang of three dudes who fight 10v3, or the gang of 10 people who fight 20v10. It's not just active tanked or solo ships, it's also small fleets with logi. These are the people who just got nerfed. If you run the scenario above in any kind of scenario where before you could win against raw numbers with good fits, like 20 vs 10 brawls where the blob brings dirt cheap ships and the other side are flying T3Cs with T3 logi -- if you run those same numbers, in a scenario where the small fleet used to be able to win, they will go from winning to losing much of the time when comparing pre-patch to post-patch.

Bling got nerfed. Blob and N+1 numbers are that much more important now. In my opinion, this is the opposite of the change that was needed. The current meta for subcaps even pre-patch was already N+1 and blobbing with as many cheap small ships as possible like Muninns, Feroxes, Kikis, and Bombers, in 100+ person fleets. Yet we're nerfing T3Cs and bling modules?

Add to the above resistance changes the fact that T2 and meta invulns were buffed, but faction/deadspace invulns were not buffed (separate from the 20% resistance nerf), and shield bling particularly got hit hard.

I think that a better solution would have been to nerf the resistances of meta and T2 modules only, and leave faction and deadspace untouched across the board.

Self repair shouldn't be nerfed because of a nerf intended to tone down logi power.
