Proposal - The end of moving supers at downtime. Posted: 18 May 2020 01:57 AM PDT Good morning r/Eve Over many years, there have been many 'grey area' edge-case mechanics used to move supers and titans around New Eden. To list but a few:
The number of broken mechanics related to super transit has been fairly minimal, but there remains an issue nonetheless. Downtime jumping supers is pretty self explanatory, jumping just before the server goes down to avoid being caught/killed before the server dies. As some of you may recall, i was one of a few who pushed for the above changes to be made. It begins with highlighting the problem, whilst also proposing a resolution. Until now, my band of merry men have been utilising a tactic we refer to as the 'DT SHOTGUN', which involves DD volleying a target before server shut-down. I have linked some videos for your reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qql_cFnKBZw (Levi - By RC) There are a number of other entities who've had to do the same, including SNUFF, TIKLE and the IvanaCo hunters in Molden heath. If you recall, PanFam also used downtime to minimize risk when they extracted their super fleet from UALX - a move which I personally supported because it was the safest way to do it, and whilst it is a 'dick move' it is not an exploit to do so. The reality is that in an ideal world, downtime should not exist. It does due to software/hardware constraints on the server, which are not easily resolved despite CCP's best efforts thus far. It is not likely that we will see an end to downtime any time soon. Therefore i propose the following: Downtime will be at 11:00 GMT daily (as it is now), but the server will actually shut down RANDOMLY anywhere between 11:00 and 11:05 once the current ingame countdown to 11:00 reaches zero. The 'less than one second' notification will become 'Server shutdown imminently'. This removes the ability to have an entirely predictable and calculable safety net, and puts the intended risk back into moving these colossal assets around the map. The above has only really been floated internally by myself between members of #REKKINGCREW, though of course we are significantly biased, and r/EVE is the perfect medium for getting feedback on the proposal from the wider community. Please try and be constructive in your responses. [link] [comments] |

Don't like toxicity? Then do something about it Posted: 17 May 2020 10:21 AM PDT I'm really tired of people complaining that EVE is a toxic place. So I've decided to make a step-by-step instruction on how to do something about it instead of just complaining. #1. Welcome yourself to the real world. There's going to be assholes everywhere. So being shocked that people can be mean is contrary to anybody who's stepped outside. EVE is no more or less toxic than any other group or community. #2. Define what's really toxic. There's toxic and then there's stuff you don't agree with. PVP isn't toxic. Having political or religious opinions isn't toxic. Hating on minority groups, picking on disenfranchised groups is toxic. Using derogatory language or personally attacking a player is toxic. #3. Remove yourself from toxic spaces. Don't like the people you surround yourself with? Stop talking to those people. #4. Don't complain about it on Reddit. That accomplishes zero things other than making you feel better. #5. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. Create or join a corporation that meets your standard of non-toxicity. Recruit like-minded players. Train them to defend your community and home. #6. Don't be toxic yourself. I find that people that complain about toxicity often are the first to be aggressively racist or homophobic in local when they enter my space and I do spaceships with them. Every one of you that downloaded EVE agreed to the EULA, TOS, and posted policies of CCP: https://support.eveonline.com/hc/en-us/sections/201141692-EULA-ToS-Policies. Read and abide by it yourself if you want to hold others to that standard. #7. When you find something, say something. If people around you break them by being threatening, initiating personal attacks, using derogatory slurs or harassing another player, attempt to deescalate and teach that pilot to be a better person. If you cannot, kick and report that player. Then move on. #8. Be friends with people first, don't lecture. Don't think you're better than anyone else. You've probably said or done really shitty things to people. So just be a friend to people and push yourself and them to be better too. I've been playing EVE since 2007. Surrounded myself only with really decent, great people. I have friendships that I've had now for 13 years that I really value with people that I've had drinks with, been to their weddings, been an ear to listen to hardships and loss. Yes, I've had to discipline and kick people who were dicks. But I've also built a corp Naval Defence Force (NLDF), and a uni-alliance The Rogue University (T.R.U) for the past four years with some of the most amazing people that don't tolerate toxicity and expect better out of each other. Real friendship takes hard work, lots of communication and understanding, and complaining only to find solutions. TL:DR - If you keep finding yourself surrounded by toxic people, maybe it's not them. Maybe it's you. if your instinct is to complain about it rather than actually do something about it, it is DEFINITELY you. [link] [comments] |

Large turrets not hitting smaller ships? Help Posted: 17 May 2020 08:50 PM PDT So I'm using large railgun turrets on a battleship, but whenever I target an npc destroyer class ship, it always misses them even when I'm within range. Do I need smaller guns to hit them? Also the npc's sometimes switch their targeting onto my heavy drones even though I launched them after they were targeting and shooting me. Do i have to use smaller drones (medium) in order for them to ignore my drones and let me tank everything? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 17 May 2020 08:12 PM PDT I'm looking at trying to do a player run event. Lots of ships blowing up, salt, and prizes. I'm about half done with the tracking framework, still working on UI for the host website. I'm looking at tossing in a few billion isk in prizes, and would like to ask for donations for additional prizes. Obviously, something like this, and asking for donated prizes is going to be taken about as well as isk doublers in Jita. There used to be escrow services where a highly respected player would hold the goods, so everyone knew you were legit, and prizes would end up distributed. If I hired one, it would go a long way at drawing in more prizes for a bigger event. Problem is, all the ones I knew seem to have moved on. Hell, even Chribba hasn't mentioned Eve on twitter since January. [link] [comments] |
