TEST Titan down. 16 Dreadnoughts, 1 Carrier with it in 4-07MU

1048 players 325 ships lost 182.7b isk lost vs 29.3b isk dropped

A TEST titan moving to 4-07 was dropped by an Imperium Dreadnought fleet after he bounced off the station. PAPI Dreadnought and carrier attempted a rescue and were defeated. Imperium fleets scrambled and saved 20 out of 30 friendly Dreadnoughts. PAPI subcap fleets chased hostiles out of system and held the field, but the Dreadnought hulks were already destroyed and not salvageable.

I was part of the Ferox fleet. We undocked 2 minutes after the alert and got a Titan bridge into the next door system, and jumped in. Got on 5 Dreadnought kill mails and a Sabre before getting trapped in the bubbles on a perch and missing the escape out of system.

In this picture you can see some of the hostile Dreadnoughts.

Why I Resubbed after 5 years

    Posted: 19 Sep 2020 12:11 PM PDT

Firstly, yes, I am a Goon and as Asher asked of you, "If you would be so kind as to not downvote it strictly because you disagree with me, I'd appreciate it. If you think this is a low effort post, or doesn't contribute to discussion, then please do."

Much like Asher, this is going to be a story about my time in Eve with Goons.

An offhand comment I made about Alphastar Pilot "I am unironically glad ASP was able to step away from the game to get shit handled in real life, not all of us would be able or willing to recognize we needed to take time away from something we truly enjoy to better ourselves. I hope he comes back when he is ready and does not feel pressured to."

Is what really got me thinking, why am I back and why would ASP could feel pressure to come back prematurely?

TLDR: The bonds I have made with people in this game is why I resubbed.

    Long Version.

Playing on and off as a Goon since '09, have known no other space lovers since starting the game. I was privileged as a Newbee in that I got to suckle off the sweet teat of mother Delve without having to fight for it.

My favorite of these early days during was being on fleets and hearing stories of the Great Eve Wars and different people talking about the various battles they were part of. Whenever I would ask a dumb question in fleet chat, of course people would give me shit, we're goons after all. At some point I would either tell them to, "fuck off I'm new" or they would realize it themselves and provide me with the guidance I was looking for.

I joined some squads made some friends, we forgot to pay rent, had to move and ended up in Deklein at some point. During this time period I continued to make connections and learn and enjoy being around my fellow goons. When I fucked up they would not let me hear the end of it, but that is how we learned at the time. I made some great friends that who no longer play but we still keep in touch.

My first roam taking Newbees out ended up with a fucked-up overview causing them to kill a blue Firetail and Pod them on our Jumpbridge (fucking sec status). While I was a Bittervet at this point I still found myself in an unfamiliar situation and I asked in my squad's jabber channel,

"We shot blues what do I do." "Tell Vilerat," was the chorus of responses.

So of course, what the fuck did I do, tell Vilerat, as of course I trust my fellow Goons. The first reply I get is

"Why the fuck are you telling me."

All I could come up with is "Shoot Blues, tell Vilerat." I later find out that this was not the proper course of action but VR helped me unfuck the situation.

My fellow squad members found it hilarious I actually took their advice, thanks y'all. At the end of the day we all found it hilarious, we unfucked some overviews and the Newbees and I had a great story to tell.

The best for me were the days in Deklein, goofing off in Ishtars, running around with Newbees. I remember being super excited when Test joined us and we were going to help them take Delve, a new war, new friends, and most importantly, cute Newbees to help learn how to play this terrible game we all love so much.

I remember the VFK "headshot" campaign and when we changed the station name to "Mittanigrad" and named the Cynojammer tower "Line in the Sand." I was super pissed that I missed BR- due to my work schedule. It didn't really matter who won that fight to me, I just wanted to experience and have the great stories to tell and share with future generations of Newbees.

I honestly don't remember when I found out the Test / GSF Schism, but I do remember thinking "Every Goon goes fuck goons, just a matter of when."

I remember mourning the passing of VR with my fellow goons and eve players.

Sometime in 2015 I made the choice to log off of Eve for the last time (thats what they all think), unsubbed and promptly put Goons, SA, and Eve out of my mind and began to focus on other things in my life.

Now in 2020 I get a stupid fucking email from Mittani asking us to come back to Eve, Horn of Goondor was sounded, test is now spewing the same rhetoric as BoB, "Goons are bad for the game, they need to be eliminated."

After reading that email, memories of the great and shitty times came flooding back. There was no question in my mind as to if I was resubbing I was more resigned to the thought of, "Fuck I gotta play this fucking game again."

What Test is trying to deny to me is not Space, our valuable pixels or anything like that. What they are trying to deny is other new players the experience I got to have. The sense of camaraderie, the friends I made, and the great Cathartic experience of winning a grueling TiDi lag fest. I felt like Test is attempting to deny the bonds that I made with goons, and even the bonds I formed Test members itself. This is not something I could stand idly by and allow to happen, so I resubbed on all my accounts and was back on the forums instantly.

I harbor no ill will against any Eve Player and would be more than happy to sit down and drink with any PAPI member swapping Eve stories.

Looking back at the culture and the way Goons were and the Goons now, it is a night and day difference. The culture when I started was pretty bad and not very inclusive unless you were a Goon, even then your millage may have varied. Now it is much better, there is a long road to go but it is a huge improvement.

Best example I have from my short time back was during a fleet when we were telling dumb dad jokes someone asked,

Goon 1: "Hey are there any women in fleet."

    Goon 2: "Yes."

    Goon 1: "Who?"

Goon 2: "Me, now go fuck yourself." (male presenting voice)

And that was the exchange, we went back to stupid dad jokes afterwards. It may seem like the bare minimum effort, but that huge of a culture shift in such a short time is insane to me. Fellow goons are policing each other, which is something I thought I would never see.

If that happened back in my days the person who called out the other goon would have been called a number of derogatory terms regarding their sexuality.

You guys may give Mittani a bunch of shit (some of which I am sure he deserved like we all do at times) but I really thing he is giving it his all, but what the fuck do I know I am just a line member.

Now here I am on a beautiful Saturday, a RetVet dusting off my F1 key, no better than a Newbee when it comes to knowledge on how to do shit outside the basics, the only problem is I have Caps and no idea how to fucking use Fighters and what the fuck why is there T2 siege mod now.

So, what do I do, ask my fellow Goons, prepared for the amount of bullshit I would get for asking a basic question like "the fuck is an ansiplex," to my surprise a majority of responses with answered my question and only a few. "You dumb fuck," and my response can only be,

"Thanks for the answers and for the others, Go fuck yourself, I am a Space Boomer."

PS: Sorry for editing, grammar, spelling etc. I am a Goon F1 monkey, what do expect from me.

    Do Goons really smoke Cigars?

    Posted: 19 Sep 2020 01:36 PM PDT

As I pull up various art assets for references for Eve related comics and such, I am fascinated that the standard Fat Bee logo (TM) has a bee that is smoking a cigar.

What is your experience? Do you smoke cigars? Is this an accurate depiction of your Federation? Discuss.

Edit: Why you downvoting me? This is a non-partisan question with nothing in relation to our current war.

    Noraus - The Vale

    Posted: 19 Sep 2020 12:08 PM PDT

Recent reports of Frat expansion into the Vale are unfortunately true.

Scum received an ultimatum from Noraus that their sov and all stations in that sov was to be handed to Frat or face destruction. WC who had come to the Vale to offer assistance fighting against Forsaken Empire in order to keep them from removing small alliances are now forced to reset their war time allies on Noraus orders, to build to his ever expanding Sov domain.

Thinking about PLEX kinda ruined my grind

    Posted: 19 Sep 2020 08:26 PM PDT

Now, I am not talking about 'the PLEX price is too high' things. I'm talking about the fact that you can just buy 1 billion ISK by just one hour of real-time work. No one can make 1b in an hour, unless it's not a very special case(Huge market tycoon, leader of goonswarm, etc) So thinking about the fact kinda ruined my mission/marketing grind fun. How can I get back my fun?(Should I think that spending money to the game is a 'waste of money'? Or the fact that I could do other things with real money so I shouldn't pay ISK with that?)

    Weapon Escalation in Eve Online

    Posted: 19 Sep 2020 09:20 AM PDT

I have been reading the book Empires of Eve by Andrew Groen about the history of wars in Eve Online. I found that the early history of Titans in Eve Online was fascinating. At one point in Eve history, it was worth attacking a corporation over the knowledge they were attempting to build a Titan. It took thousands of players months of coordinated efforts just to build one Titan. Some corporations went so far as to build decoy shipyards, so that their actual Titan would not be harmed while under construction. Eventually the two largest factions in the game, Ascended Frontier and Band of Brothers, went to war just over the fact that the first titan ever (named Steve) had been built. Not used or anything, just the fact that it existed! The book talks about how one Titan could single handedly change the course of a battle fought.

Now, on the front page of r/eve, there is a post about how the PAPI faction is flying around with 1000 Titans in their armada.

Should there be a new escalation in warfare for Eve Online? A larger, more destructive ship type that creates a new arms race between corporations because of its ability to change the course of conflicts? A new ship type that would render Titans the new Dreadnaughts? Where do go when the ships with "dooms day weapons" become a common sight? Alternatively, were early Titans too overpowered, and now they fit better with the overall balance it the game?

Vale Update: AI Alliance leader infected with virus!

    Posted: 19 Sep 2020 01:52 PM PDT

It has been reported from several sources that Botting Empire, Fraternity's leader, Nor-ass has been infected by a mutated version of the Hubris-XL13 virus.

This well-known virus from ancient capsuleer days is normally benign and easily cured within a collective cybernetic organization. This new, yet to be cured, strain has the confounding side effect of causing the AI to no longer recognize the difference between blue and grey. This latest version of virus is being classified as: Hubris-XL13f

How do we know that Nor-ass has been infected with the virus?

In a stunning revelation it has been confirmed that Nor-ass has attempted to hire neutral residents of Vale of the Silent to evict his blue allies in Vale. You read that right.

These betrayed Allies are the same Allies that fought a years long battle to evict known Anti-Semitic and Racist alliance Forsaken Empire. FE, an alliance that mocked the real-life ethnic identities of many of the residents of Vale of the Silent and held contempt for Fraternity.

In that long and costly battle the residents of Vale won triumphantly against FE. These same residents did the heavy fighting and suffered the most casualties as they battled to remove FE. Fraternity's interests were protected along with the dignity of all capsuleers and the friendly rivalries they design their game play around.

In the egalitarian fashion that they operate, they did not complain or squabble over loot when Fraternity swooped in during the final death throes of FE and claimed the unearned spoils. In this moment it was confirmed Nor-ass was fully infected with the Hubris-XL13 virus.

What will happen as imminent war ultimatums approach in Vale? Will the wily leader, Nor-ass, be able to find a cure for his infection? Will his Google-less universal translator be able to uncover comparable cultural references to decipher the code behind the Hubris-XL13 virus?

What will he do when he finds out his real life country-men believe he has brought dishonor and shame upon them with his betrayal? The same country-men who stand in unity with the benevolent leaders who fight for fun and respect in Vale of The Silent.

Will Nor-ass find the humility to correct his wrong actions? Can he save face? Will he fully comprehend the implications of betraying his allies and what that might mean for him within his larger coalition(s)? Will his devious plans to leave Horde/Legion and conquer all the north finally be recognized for what they are?

Stay tuned for the next installment!

    Battle report: UHKL-N (Delve) / 2020-09-19 14:00

    Posted: 19 Sep 2020 07:42 AM PDT

A large battle just went down. Aprox 900 in system, 400-500 on each side I think.

I joined a Jackdaw fleet as a booster. We jumped a few gates and came across a Ferox fleet. We warped off and sat on a Fortizar for about 5 minutes. We then warped to them on the gate and jumped through. They followed.

    IT'S A TRAP.

50 or so Titan's were on the other side and lanced DD'ed them, though didn't kill that many. We then decloaked and engaged.

They bat phoned for sub cap reinforcements and a HAC gang and another Jackdaw fleet arrived. 400 Enemy Dreadnoughts were reported to be on standby.

They never jumped in. Eventually their sub-cap fleets noticed the node was not reinforced and escaped and our fleets left after looting the field. I was never targeted and didn't help much, my rockets being well out of range of everything.

I hope the subcaps who died waiting for that Dreadnought support appreciated it that they never arrived.
