    The problems with the design of EDENCOM ships

    It should paint the picture nicely to bring up the fact that the Edencom Defense Initiative has banned the use of EDENCOM ships citing ineffectiveness, but hopefully I can appeal to a few reasons why these things need some love.

    The basic idea behind the EDENCOM ships is that they're tanky, and while they have low single-target damage, they make up for it with chaining AOE damage.

    Let's look at both of these;

    They can fit a very nice shield buffer, but it's pretty much on par with shield tanked caldari navy ships. They can't active tank particularly well, and though their passive tank would be pretty nice, they're locked out of the PvE content(solo mission running) that would utilize it because of damage and application issues.

    The ship is supposed to trade off damage for extreme tank, or at least that appears to be the philosophy, but it's not able to fit a native active tank and, due to diminishing returns on shield hardeners, it's buffer is pretty much on par with other shield tanked ships. A class bonus reducing the diminishing returns on shield hardeners would go a long way to give them a niche, seeing as allies logi would provide them more EHP than competing ships.

    Second, we come to the damage. As it is currently, vorton projectors work as instant hitting, chaining missiles. This means that they have the same application problems as missiles, as well as having greatly reduced damage.

    I understand that the gimmick of triglavian weapons is that they're supposed to have the highest single target damage of anything in the game once they ramp, but would it be so terrible if EDENCOM ships at least, at least did the best total dps in the game, assuming that they chain all 5 targets and manage to apply perfectly to each one? Presently, they fall about 20% short of trig weapons on that front.

    Let's say I was feeling suicidal and wanted to FC a thunderchild fleet, or just an Edencom fleet generally. First, instead of just calling a primary, I'm going to have to select a blob of enemies close enough to chain the projectors for maximum damage. Even then, the chains may not all hit the same targets, meaning that damage which is already low to 5 targets, is actually spread over 10-15 ships. This makes life annoying for logi but not harder per se.

    Dictors or HICs can just burn right towards because for one, I'm not going to be able to apply on them even if they're flying right down into my guns, and second, even if I did apply to them, my fleet would be doing only 20% of the damage that any other fleet would do.

    What about fighting triglavian ships? Well, I don't know that I've ever seen 5 Leshaks spawn at the same time as one another. I've seen 7 leshaks on the same grid before, but only if two or three roaming fleets have combined. The only time I can conceive of that 5 leshaks would be within chain range of one another would be in the case of Zorya's fleets, but then you'd have the problem of zoryas just spider tanking you and regenerating ungodly amounts of EHP as the fight went on. Plus this is assuming that every volley you're firing is actually chaining to 5 battleships and not getting diverted onto cruisers or destroyers or frigates. On top of that, as you kill hostiles, your total damage decreases, until you're on the last leshak left alive, and you're damage output has shrunk to 20% of what it used to be. I'm pretty confident saying that a fleet of 30 thunderchilds would be unable to kill a zoryas leshak, and that's pretty fucking depressing.

    Recommended changes:

    Give EDENCOM ships a buff to diminishing returns on hardeners, increasing their buffer and making friendly logi more effective in terms of EHP restored -or- Give them enough capacitor and fitting room to fit a solid active tank and be stable -or- give them a capacitor transfer bonus to facilitate cap chains and self reps. They chain their dps, why shouldn't they be able to chain their method of repping?

    Buff vorton tuning systems. It's inexcusable that t2 VTS's give, in some cases, a boost of 1(5) dps. It's a terrible damage mod -or- Add a set of vorton projectors rigs -or- Create a drone deployable that you can shoot your projector at that focuses it, causing more damage. These ships are Upwell ships, and it's not unbelievable that they'd come up with something like this

    Buff VP damage by 20-30%

    Remove the "chains up to 5 times within 10km" attribute, replace it with a new maximum range of 90km. When the lightning hits a target(say, at 70km) it would look for the closest target. If that target was within 20km(90 minus 70 to hit the first target gives us 20km remaining of the total range) it chains to it, and so on and so forth until the maximum range is reached. The chain limit would be removed, and the weapons damage would be buffed by 400-500%. Damage would be divided between every target hit.

    This would mean that proper positioning could give EDENCOM fleets the ability to chose between high damage on a few targets, mediocre damage on 5-6 targets, and low damage, potentially on a large number of targets at close range -or- Make the chain prioritize locked targets, which would at least make sure that the entire fleet is damaging the same 5 things, rather than spreading damage between 10-15+ enemies
