Imperium finally gets an even fight; promptly loses 33:1

    Battle report

PAPI formed a Muninn fleet to shoot the Jump Bridge and Cyno Jammer in 39P-1J - the gateway to one of the last Imperium-held constellations in Delve.

With the PAPI Muninns at 50 off the gate and its logistics wing at 80, the Imperium brought their "Baltec" armor battleship fleet - supported by five force auxiliaries- through the Ansiblex jump bridge and immediately engaged the Muninns.

The battleship guns were simply not effective against the properly-ranged HAC fleet with a strong, competent, and extremely handsome logistics wing, and the fight quickly swung in PAPI's favor.

A heroic TEST interdictor pilot, Hyenphea, managed to stay up under intense fire and hold the battleships down long after the fight had swung well into PAPI favor - preventing the Imperium from extracting its battleships long enough to ensure the Imperium paid for its poor doctrine choice.

Genuinely disappointing patch and announcement CCP

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 09:34 AM PST

Not much to say here. It's a patch with pointless features we never asked for. There is no problem with fleet anchoring that needed a whole quadrant to address.... The opportunity cost of a decision like this can not be understated. This could have been a Faction Warfare reboot quadrant, it could have been the start of a fundamental PVE/mission rework, or hell, it could have even just been them wrapping up the resource distribution and scarcity project. But hey, we get to warp round in shapes now, so that's pretty cool I guess...

PAPI USTZ WEED TZ JUST DRINKING SOME BREWS AT THE RIVER WHILE GOONS DROWN

Me and bob decide were going to ping an 0420 weed tz fleet and shoot the 39p jump gate.

CauldronB0rn responds by undocking the goonswarm mighty baltec fleet with 5 fax and warp to the ansiblex in 1dq which connects to 39P and decides to jump his 75 battleships into our 100 munnins at zero, bob started calling primaries and logi told us we were holding and after about 10 minutes goons warped what they could of there battleships off to there cored fort on grid and watched us kill the rest of their fleet and faxes in which we had gated a couple anti-cap dreads to help kill the active fax at the end.

Unpopular opinion: Forced fleet formations could challenge n+1 meta

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 03:49 PM PST

Eve fleet fights are predicated on the n+1 where you need a bigger blob to get the enemy. You ship-up, the enemy ships-up etc., but in the end the advantage will go to the bigger blob. Perhaps one of the foundations to this philosophy is the fleet warp mechanics that get a fleet onto grid as a blob (or 'ball formation'). There is currently no disadvantage to having a full fleet as it just means you come to the party with a bigger ball.

Forcing a range of fleet formations that exclude the default 'ball formation', would challenge the theory that you need a bigger blob. It could actually create a disadvantage, especially in large bloc fleet fights where if you warp 250 people in the vertical grid (SAO formation: imgur.com/a/BPWogqW) you might find ¾ of your fleet are completely ineffective against your target (or find themselves landing 100km off a gate). It would consequentially make you actually think about using squad and wing commanders effectively, and requiring squad and wing warps of small contingents for full effectiveness should you n+1.

Interesting questions remain about how this formation mechanic is implemented in other fleet movement events such as cynos. If formations also applied when a fleet jumped to a cyno, consider the impact it would have on capital and super-capital engagements. 250 strong super-cap blobs to one cyno would no longer be effective, multiple strategically placed cynos & squads with their own support fax would be required. And iff the formation spacing is based on ship class, you may have to make a decision between 20 dreads or 5 super/titans, as any more would not be effective or in range.

    • Discussion caveat: We all hate change so get over that first before entering this discussion, as you complain when there is no change. You didn't design the big mac, you are not entitled to complain if they change the recipe, the choice to buy it remains yours. Just stop standing outside Maccas telling people why you aren't buying one and go to another store.

TL;DR perhaps removing the ball formation would stop you needing to bring the bigger ball.

Why has CCP changed the bookmarks to be so big and ugly. Make it Stop. Revert plz

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 08:22 AM PST

Reign Fleet mechanics show that CCP have no idea how this game works.

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 12:12 PM PST

Do CCP really think that having a grid square of your fleet members will be better than all anchoring and focusing on one target which is the current game mechanics?

It's like they have no idea how pvp is done in this game,.

Planned route not always selecting the next gate anymore.

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 06:23 AM PST

As we know when you set a destination you get a route and it's lit yellow in overview for your convenience. Until today you could follow that route and just press jump on next gate conveniently because after a jump your next point in that route was automatically selected after a jump.

Today i've found myself slowboating back to the gate i just jumped thru more than once, be cause the next gate was not selected. Anyone else had this? Am I missing something?

    Steps to reproduce:

Pick a route, start jumping thru it

    Magpie got robbed

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 09:28 PM PST

    Hi,

I has doing level 4 mission in high sec. Then an player with a Triglavian frigate came to same pocket with me and came close but didn't seam to do anything else. Suddenly my Magpie Mobile tractor unit was gone. The frigate was still there and didn't go hostile or anything.

I was shocked and couldn't figure out what happened. According to my best knowledge one can't just get MTU or attack it without getting hostile status(which didn't happen).

Can anyone tell me what happened?
