Playing EVE in (almost) single player

    Posted: 07 Mar 2021 11:15 PM PST

Today I decided that I wanted to suffer, so I made a new Alpha account where I'm not allowed to use the market (except for NPC blueprints), contracts, the hypernet, or the trade window. I can loot player wrecks, so tech 2 is not totally off-limits.

The goal is to build any battleship fitted with somewhat decent modules.

I started off by doing the Military career agent missions. So far I have a Slasher and 3 autocannons. I also got a microwarpdrive from a rat. Continuing the military missions I can get a Rifter. For Industry, I can get mining equipment. This means I could build a destroyer and start killing belt rats for modules.

In the future, a big problem is ammo. Because it's dropped by rats, I can't buy blueprints for it. I could potentially fly to Amarr space and build a ship with laser bonuses, so I don't have to worry about that. Rigs are also going to be difficult, because I need to either salvage or loot relic sites for specific components.

Do you think I'm going to reach my goal? Do you have any tips?

Edit: All BPO purchases from NPCs now allowed based on suggestion

A bunch of "pick up guilds, "shit stains" and "pubbies" have pushed the Goonswarm Federation back to 1 system.

    Posted: 07 Mar 2021 09:21 AM PST

The Mittani should be more careful with his words.

By labeling and consequently losing to a bunch of "pick up guilds" makes Goons just look bad at this game. Allegedly superior culture means nothing if your home can be set alight by a couple of shit stains pubbies.

Goons had three of the most developed regions in the game. Goons had the biggest super capital fleet in the game. Goons had 4 years of topping MER every single month. All it took was for a bunch of virgin scrubs to wreck it all.

Jump Freighter stolen in broad day light

    Posted: 07 Mar 2021 04:32 PM PST

Today I watched a Rhea get bumped off stargate and attacked. Once he realized he was done for, he ejected.

Of course the attackers ceased firing and safely boarded and docked the ship.

Has this happened to you before?

    Edit:

I mailed the victim, and he claims he jettisoned 30b of mods. Once the attacks were gone, he checked the can and it was all there. Seems far fetched but possible given that the attackers were probably so excited about getting the JF they didn't notice the can. Eve is crazy....

CCPlease: ban feedback for RMT reports

    Posted: 07 Mar 2021 11:37 AM PST

One of CCP's most successful anti-botting initiatives is also its most simple: give players a thank-you email whenever a character you reported gets banned for botting. The impact of this was immediately felt with a vast increase in bot reporting, as more players took more time to report bots because they knew for a fact it was worth the effort.

Can we get a version of this for other kinds of reports, specifically RMT reports to Team Security? It's quite common to see large RMT contracts go up in jita 4-4 and other locales, and characters issuing RMT contracts often remain active (and keep laundering/selling isk) for months at a time. Every jita trader I know goes through the same cycle of initially reporting dozens and dozens of these contracts to CCP, getting zero response, and eventually stopping because we don't think it's doing any good. (I personally filed several hundred reports before giving up on the project years ago.)

If we could get the same kind of feedback that bot reports do, there'd be a 1000%+ increase in such reports; most jita tradesmen are happy to scan contracts and file reports, so CCP would get a constant stream of volunteer effort busting this variety of RMT and forcing sellers/mules into using more difficult methods to avoid detection. CCP could instantly kill this strategy for laundering RMT isk just by thanking the community for help!

Goonswarm 2021; or the importance of being earnest

    Posted: 08 Mar 2021 01:40 AM PST

I have come to you today to talk to you about something that has been evident for a while in the current conflict; the value of having momentum on your side.

Pre M2-, PAPI looked damn good. Progress through delve, while slower than the goon propagandists would have liked (we literally were not winning fast enough), was fairly steady once we got a good foothold. And then M2- happened. The pendulum swung. We lost plenty of ihubs. Progress on the war in several ways did actually reverse. And then that kind of... just stopped. It wasn't one single event that caused the goon numbers to drop, and their fleets to start to feed (shout out to imperium au tz fcs for their regular ferox fleet feeds, I hope you own BPOs). Why is this?

Certain people stopped being as active. Where is Asher? Has anyone seen Elo? I've seen razor, but not those lads in a while. Now, this isn't a dig at them. Asher in particular put the entire coalition on his back for a long while there, and real life can come for us all at any time (my own corp history shows several periods of just that). No, the problem is how a 30 thousand character coalition came to rely on just two people to save them. And that's an institutional failing. Goonswarm has always railed against the paper pushers etc of eve, and yet their stratified approach to FCs will have cost them. It adds a barrier that doesn't need to be there, and therefore will have cost them FCing talent. It's a shame. The leadership of the imperium has really let its members down here, by not properly nurturing and teaching budding FCs. We can talk about other perceived failings if people want, but for me that's the biggest issue in these later months of the war.

And don't hit me with the "acksually we have many talented FCs" line. Danger Dave? Havish? Please. Slavback, who isn't even allowed to FC feroxes anymore?

I'm not saying we have a plethora of talented FCs (we let BUSA members lead fleets for instance), but lord there's a lot of good men able to step up and do a pretty decent job. And in the long war, that makes the difference. People can step back/burn out and not feel bad that no one else will form, because someone will. Can you say the same, Imperium? Do you feel good about driving your best people away?

New player looking for help resources

    Posted: 08 Mar 2021 02:33 AM PST

Hello! I started playing this game yesterday and got hooked. Sunk 8h on it in a row but have been taking my time to learn and come to grips with the whole insanity (this game is so complex, jeez). I guess that I am asking for help with anything a newbie should start by doing and how to progress in the game. My ultimate fantasy is probably mostly PvE and the dream of having a ship with drones doing most of the work. So what should I be looking at to pursue this? Thank you.

    Darkside and friends dreadbomb Fraternity

    Posted: 07 Mar 2021 08:05 AM PST

It is sunday afternoon and time to leech reddit karma off other peoples fights.

    BR: https://zkillboard.com/related/30000268/202103070800/

AAR: This morning the russian alliance Darkside., known exclusively for gatecamping in Oijanen and shooting rorquals with + - 40 Legions, found a rorqual in Fraternitys new home region Vale of the Silent. After a minute of engaging content the panic button got hit and Fraternity was forming Muninns and undocking supers to save the krab.

As soon as Frat lit a cyno Bogdan started spamming "PALKU PALKU DAVAI" to his friends roaming the area. Some americans decided to collaborate with the russians to destroy the chinese spaceships.

47 dreads jumped into the Frat supers that were busy forcing off the legions.

While feeding 3 Hels and still munching on his fried rice Noraus furiously pinged for Titans, cynoing them in at a safe distance from the dreads shortly after.

Even the americans iced out revelations https://zkillboard.com/kill/91257668/ didn't stand a chance. Another Nyx went up in flames as the dreads got dd'd into the dumpster.

What do you like and dislike in EVE?

    Posted: 07 Mar 2021 12:55 PM PST

So, let's start with the reason I am writing this post. The reason is that unfortunately, I have completely left EVE with absolutely no desire to ever come back. During several last months I've made several attemts to rejoin this game, but after a couple of days I lost all desire to play and just wasted my money I paid for omega.

The reason of this is that the game is just boring. I just found all the activities to be bad. PvE is just stupid mindless grinding, without any depth or challenge. PvP is also shallow, because of the ever-dominating meta of flying in a large blob ancoring a FC, because your gameplay in this meta is just mindless clicking on broadcasts as damage dealer or finding low hp allies and repairing them (that is fun at the beggining, but is too shallow to be engaging for a long time). But the main problem with PvP is not in the in-fight gameplay directly, but it is that the majority of time in fleet flights you simply wait or move, waiting for a fight, and this is the most boring part of PvP. When I was only getting to know this game, it was very engaging for me, because learning new mechanics was very interesting, but they were too shallow to hold my interest for a long time.

However, I am here not for whining and complaining as you could think. I work in gamedev and I am obsessed with my dream to create an MMO, that won't have the problems, mentioned above (unfortunaly, all MMOs that I know have them), and will provide content that will be able to compete with quality and deepness against session based games while also providing content that is unique for the MMO genre. That's why I want to analyze EVE from the gamedesighn perspective. I want to know what do you like in EVE, what makes you play this game in spite of all the mentioned problems (or maybe some of them are not even problems for you). Also, I'd like to know, do you agree with my problem list, and what other problems do you see, that you can add to this list.

I thank you in advance for your feedback.
